We had to cut our breeder bucks antler this week while he was still in velvet. Does anyone have any tips on velvet removal and antler preparation . We would like to have the antler mounted and don't know what procedure to flow to remove the velvet. Thanks in advance

Boiling works. so does a scalpel, you can cut it off and peel it. If you use the scalpel, you will wanna soak for a day or two in a little bit of bleach water to remove Odor, then soap in some dawn dish soap for another day to remove and greasy residue. Then you can stain them, Burt umber and burnt sianna oil paint is what I use. Paint the sianna, ilet dry a few hours, then sand and polish the rack, it will remove the surface paint and leave the paint in the crevices. Repeat with the burnt umber. It will take hours but will be worth it.

I have done several rack repairs( I do taxidermy all winter long) and if you need anymore advice you can call my number, listed in my signature below.
