This cold snap has already got me tired of busting ice. I didn't get my watering system installed this year due to adding pens,  electricity, misting system, handling facility, and alleyway. What is the best way to water and keep it from freezing. I have info on the Nelson waterers. Is this the best way to go or is there a better solution out there.

As far as auto waters are concerned, Nelson is the best water system out there.

Nelson is without a doubt the best. Last year we had a couple days here in Wisconsin that got down to -20 to -30 and they never had the slightest amount of ice in them. Also, they are very easy to clean.

I put in Cobett waterers.  Made in Iowa.  All plastic, they are thermal tubes.  Easy to clean.  No need for cement, I just put gravel pads around them.  I use a 40 watt light bulb in them to add extra heat when it get below 10 degrees.  They don't need any heat in mild climates.

What is the best way to keep water from freezing without installing water and electrical lines?  I've read about the propane heated tanks, has anyone used them with success?

I use a water made by bar-r-bar horse drinker.  You don't need electricity and your deer always has clean water since the water drains after the animal drinks.

Hershey...quickest and cheapest.... build an INSULATED box around your water trough with 2x4's and plywood or osb...2-3" thick insulation panels..the blue stuff...paint the wood black to absorb heat and you can put a clear front facing the south sun to absorb heat. A lid with a hole big enough for their head to go in.

sheets 3/4-inch exterior plywood or osb
-2x4's
1 1/2-inch rigid insulation board,

sheets polycarbonate
Glazing closure strips,
Black paint,

We have 4 Corbett waterers and they work awesome. No electric required and water is heated by the earths temputure. We are located in central WI where the average earth temp is 54 degrees and it keeps water cool in summer and warm in winter. Check it out online it's a great product!

I just put in a Nelson water. I just started my farm, I only have 2 doe so far and have had them a week. They was fairly calm does until I got them home. They have been real spooky. I was afraid they was not drinking. They would not come anywhere close to the waterer. I put a small tank in the pen on other side where they have been staying. I home they get use to it. Pretty exspensive waterer for them to not use it. Any ideas on how to get the to use it. I hate to take tank out of pen. It's 100 degrees here. Want to make sure they get water

Getting new doe's to get used to their new surroundimgs can also be stressful on the owner. LOL It will just take time for them to get used to the new waterer. Believe me they do a lot of exploring at night. With the temps as they are I would keep water in the small tank for a while. you could try placing some treats close to the Nelson. Trust me, they will start using it. Good luck. Allen
