Weak back legs

All of my bottlefeds were spooked by something & broke the latch. One has a broken front leg (between the knee and hoof) and the other is very weak in the back end. I found her in the buck pen----she might have gotten her back end caught in between the gate & fence. She cannot get up on her own----once I lift her up, her back end kind of sways when she takes steps and her back legs are very weak but not broken. I think the damage is in her hip area. I gave her 3/4cc dex-----anything else anyone would recommend? She is 3 months old and of course is an X-Factor daughter. Any suggestions would help!

Always figures its the best one! I would give banamine / b-12 to help with pain. If possible I would try and get her to a vet and get an X-ray taken. Just to make sure theres not a fracture. Other than that Im not sure what to tell you. Best of luck!

Sheri, personally the advice Ben gave is what I would do in this situation. With her being bottlefed im assuming that giving meds isnt an issue either, just watch her stress levels it can be a critical time after injury. Now, with the broken leg did it break the skin, whats the break look like, and what is her overall attitude like?

Sheri, Years ago we had a fawn with the same break but the back leg below the knee.I fashioned two hardwood splints and duct taped over a gauze wrap after setting the break. Be sure the wood is 1/2 inch lower then the hoof.

Our little doe lived on for 8 years. The vet should have a portable x-ray machine to check the other fawn.We did this and I run the pic to my chriropractor and was back in 20 minutes as my vet office was 35 miles away.

Sometimes bottlefed babies can also suffer from low vitamin e or selenium which can show as muscle weakness. I would get your vet to also take blood and check her levels when they check her for any fractures.

Hey Sheri, how is your little girl doing? Hope you are seeing some improvement. Keep us posted!
