I just returned home to Wi today after a 4 day hunting trip to Texas. I went to Poverty Canyon Ranch. My friend Lisa is the manager there over the hunting ranch and their extensive whitetail breeding operation.
What a super great time I had. Top notch accommodations, top notch staff and a great selection of animals and birds to hunt. I am already planning my return trip for next summer! I want one of those trophy size Axis bucks!!
This was my first time going to a place like this and I can't say enough good about the experience. This is not meant to be an ad, just simply sharing my trip with you guys.
On my first evening hunt I and my friend Lisa (the manager) who guided me part of the time stalked a Texas Dall Sheep. I scored with a long shot along a mountain ridge. The next day the guides put me on to a great Blackbuck Antelope however I screwed the pooch and didn't close the deal. Honestly I got pretty discouraged with myself and didn't even hunt the third day. Day four the guide and I spotted some Antelope way in the distance and then stalked them. It was a challenge, but it paid off when I dropped a trophy size Blackbuck Antelope at about 270 yards.
The ranch is 2300 acres and has a great selection of cover and animals. If you have not done anything like this you really should consider it!
