there is not a choice listed for my plans but the way I see it I am already in so deep as far as $$$ out that I have to stick it out and hope for the best. I plan to only keep my top end and mid range doe's. any thing that I have that is average I am selling, giving away or will put in the freezer to save on the feed bill. A.I. ing to good bucks that I can sell my doe fawns from. Will see how it works and hope for the best.

Last year we bred 8 of our own does and this year we are breeding 21 of our own does so I guess we are increasing in numbers. Now of the 21 we are breeding this year 5 of those are earmarked to be sold so that will drop our numbers back to 16 does being bred to fawn out here for us. But even at that we are doubling in size.
The one key statement I read from RLAwhitetails was he is focusing on breeding top end stuff. I hope everyone takes advantage of the buyers market to better their own herds. That would be the smart move.

I took advantage of the low prices this year to get some really good stuff, i spent alot of money this year on good stock and I am really excited, I see myself having multiple 250" and bigger in a few years, which is great considering i havent had a 200" buck here yet, As far as my numbers i am breeding only 4 of my own does this year, but i have 6 does to pickup that are being bred elsewhere to some good bucks. Should be fun.

I understand some folks have to and I can't fault them for that. However, when the stock market or any other market is down that's the time to buy... not sell.

You guys are getting bigger when the market is down so there will be twice as many deer for sale next year and that will keep the market flooded and prices down.I'm not sure but if everyone keeps gettin bigger and the shooter market stays flooded then that wont help anything!!!! I guess i'm just not sure!!!!!!!

Hey Mike, Its like I have said before THE VIEW FROM THE BACK OF THE PACK NEVER CHANGES! Don't do or worry what everyone else is doing... DO what you think will work BEST for YOU'R program. Set a pace you feel is comfortable for your budget and your farm and stick to it. I have to agree with Michael and Roger in the fact we are still expanding our herd to make some great crosses this fall and as always for the future of MY program that I set in motion 4 short years ago. So despite the economy I for one can't sell my program short of myoriginal goals. Besides you know me if I go down I'm not much of one to burn my bridges........I usally BLOW em up!

Yup i know and i did the same as i have some great glenn dice stuff headin my way and a little texas tea comin into ny and i am gunna ai my own for the first time so that should be interesting..I just hope we can keep things goin with so many farms and so many deer and ranches growin their own....Kinda makes me worry a bit!!!!!

I also have taken advantage of the semen prices and have broken my self imposed rule of not buying high price semen as I only have a out of State stocker market for my bucks. I will be putting lower genetic does in the freezer for the large family I have. We do love whitetail venison. We have only kept the high end does and will AI the same amount as we have been doing for the last four years.
We have had good sales in our mule deer, elk and Rocky Mountain goats this year and are sold out. We did not set up any whitetail bucks for sale this year as I wanted large mature body deer for my harvest facility clients. We will be trying to sell good four year old stocker bucks which range from 140 to 200 SCI in 2011. We can deliver 15 head at a time and hope to sell sixty head of whitetail bucks. The buck market will be whatever it is in 2011 as supply and demand will govern their worth. Good luck to all in the up coming year.

I must say i like what i am seeing........ am glad everyone is optomistic and are staying focused with their future farm plans......I for one am breeding a few less this year than I normally would but am breeding my top end does to some really good breeders......going to focus right now on improving the genetics in my herd......have looked at different ways to cut some costs like doing my own aiing this year and getting rid of some other uneccessary costs......I think things will be ok especially with the determinaton of everyone in the industry.........lets not forget to keep supporting the ND folks as that is a BIG part of our future as well!!!!!
Is full steam ahead for us here at the Circle J. We will double our herd this year with some great new genetics. Already have some fawns sold for next year. And we might put somethings in Auction next year im still undesided. I look forward to another exciting year. Wish you all luck and best wishes to all.

Let's make sure we respect everyones opinions when it comes to our current market and economy........the fact is feed costs are high and we do have alot of animals currently to sell.........lets hope the demand continues to be there for us and we can keep on doing what we like doin.........but I surely can understand someone taking the cautious side of things too!! You should run this poll next year as well. It might be intresting to see how opinions change over the course of a year.
