width of spread?

Steve,

I've always put inside spread over outside spread. When we were allowed to have a harvest facility the clients in most cases would be impressed with spread and points. I personally like inside spread but that is just me.

Its a tricky question. The reason I asked is, we have a bull that has a 43" inside spread but his 3rd tines hook out to about 60". It make him look super wide in the pasture ever when he is by 50" wide bulls.

It's a hard thing to breed away from a 40 plus inch wide bull. In most cases he will produce that width in most of his offspring. The question is will he throw the same g3 in his offspring. My guess is he will not. Put then I've always bred my elk for what I like to look at. I've tried for years to get them all wide and have not really been sucessful.

There are so many great bulls out there and semen is very reasonable for elk. I've used outside semen for the last three years from some great looking bulls in my opinion. Bulls like Six Pack, Silvertine, Hogan, Kodiak, Primetime and Impressive. Hope they turn out some nice animals for me.

They should produce well. We have an impressive son @4 that will be in the 450+ range and a primetime son that scored 627@9 and has been over 500 5 years running.

If your ever board and want to talk elk feel free to call me. 440-537-2601

Steve,

Do you have any pictures you can share or that you could email me? I'm interested in both of the bulls. I have two nice Impressive/King sons that I really like that are two years old, both are wide. Also have two Primetime sons I also like that are two years old. My Six Pack and Hogan sons will be yearlings this spring and I hope they will be nice. I have 20 Primetime cows bred to Silvertine and hope we did well with AI. Last of May and first week of June will tell.

Hey Jack I seen the widest bull I've ever seen. It was a silvercreek bud son that had a 77" inside spread. It was unreal. The bad part is the bull died and they never got a chance to breed or collect the bull.

Inside spread is the WOW factor that hunters see and understand most! Outside score in whitetails is just an added ingredient for HYPE!

Inside spread for sure! A big wide main beam looks better in my opinion. "TALL, WIDE, and HEAVY." That is pretty much what every hunter wants. IMO.
