I have a one year old buck that is stacked in blood lines. He is 5/8 texas and scores in the mid 150's. In his pedigree he has max dream, 3x jake the dream buck, red rock, easy does it and texas queen. He is close to 200 lbs. he is pure typical with an 8 inch drop tine.

As we all know...Stacked to one is not stacked to all.  I myself would not draw a 150ish yearling but i would breed him good as a yearling and see what he turns out to be at 2 and how his first group of bucks looks like. You in Bama are around alot of Texas stuff so its a tough call...If you like it...Put a ring on it... lol
 
I'm with Mike on this one. Breed the crap out of him and see what happens. My personal thoughts on drawing him are no. There are so many bucks drawn out of these days. I see all these guys get excited about a buck and draw him. then i see this same semen sit on WTE with no sales ever. There is too much competition out there. When i first started all i wanted was a big buck to draw semen on. Now that reality has set in i don't know if i'll ever draw on one. Will just stay my course for raising shooters :) I know when we get our first BIG Yearling though, i will want to draw on him. Just stay disciplined. Sorry if i rambled
 
If you are 100% sold on the fact this buck will be a great producer for you in the future and you would be glad to have all of the draw for your own use than I would consider drawing him after the breeding season. 


I had a pretty solid Cardiac Kid yearling son a couple years back that I had a lot of faith in.  I tried to draw him before breeding with him as a yearling and I only got a few straws for farm use.  I did live breed a few does to him as a yearling.  At 2 he grew into something pretty special and I thought I had the world by the tail.  I lost him in August.  He was the first deer I lost to EHD in 2012.  Wish I had a few more straws of this guy in the tank.  So goes the deer business.  Nothing is for certain except for the fact that at some point in time the buck you have today will be gone.
 
I agree with Bill, many bucks today are collected for the wrong reasons. If this buck is in your long term breeding plans, then collect him. Don't collect him just to sell it. If he turns out in a year or two, and you have people interested in him, that is just a bonus. Good luck with him! He has a nice pedigree, hope he turns out for you!
 
I have a 217" yearling this year and I probably should collect him because of his tough and hardy bloodline. But I Didn't. I'll wait and see at 2. Not For resale just For Farm Use. I live bred him this year
 
Let me ask the stupid question.... :rolleyes: What's the point of spending $$$ to draw him if one is using it for their own farm use? One can live breed.


 


Is it just to ai for predictability of fawns birth?


Use if he dies...gets sold ..Both...etc


 


As a newer poorer $$$ farmer i don't see any other reasons than that.

We drew on a nice yearling this year. My reasoning was to be able to breed with him if the unthinkable happened as well as to make sure he was not sterile. Since then, we have lost him. I am glad we drew on him but would rather have him alive. I am fortunate that he live covered some of our best producing does.
