I have a yearling buck that keeps rubbing the tip of his beam to the point its bleeding. Would like to know if anybody has an idea on what to do. He still has some filling out to do. I thought about clamping it and wondering about giving him some meds, any thoughts would be appreciated.

We had a buck that did that every year. Finally we moved him into a pen with a free standing gravity feeder and that helped a lot. Make sure his antlers aren't rubbing something when he feeds. You'll have to watch and be sure he doesn't get an antler infection in the end where it is bleeding. Flies love that and will lay eggs. An antler infection can kill them.

Unfortunately some bucks just do that. I had a buck that did it at 1 yr old and 2 yrs old. Had his antlers both years just an absolute mess. Tips broke off, velvet ripped and his antlers just never finished growing. He always thought he was the dominant buck in the pen, even though he wasn't.

Good Luck !

Someone told me they gave their deer banamine for premature rubbing. Just a thought. Research this for your self.

Banamine is a pain reducer/swelling reducer medication. I don't think it has anything to do with keeping them from rubbing their antlers.
