Now that most bucks have shed their antlers, I'm curious to see what you feel is an "average" or "respectable" increase in antler growth, (in inches) not including spread, from 2 yrs to 3 yrs, and 3 yrs to 4 yrs?
This might be a very stupid question and one with no real answer at all. Last spring I got my first buck that was a yearling. I have no idea with being so new to raising deer weather he grew a good first rack or not but by looking at many pics on here he was very much on the small side in...
I took some pictures of my bucks yesterday and then compared them to the same time period last year. I found that my deer appear to be maybe 10 days to two weeks behind schedule from last year. Has anyone else noticed this? It was an extremely cold winter here in NW PA and I'm thinking that...
Not related to cervid farming but you guys may be able to help. Im trying to age deer in trail camera pictures and tell if a buck will be 1.5 this fall or 2.5. Originally i assumed all of last years fawns will be the same size they were last fall, is this true? If i see a deer that is the size...
Could there be a problem with minerals or my feed. Cut antlers today and out of 8. 6 of them had what we call pnuts on G2's and 1 of them had broke main beam off right past G3 and other side had curled downwards. Anyone every had a problem like this
Just wanted to share Tea's growth cycle this year. Truely amazing how far he has come since last year. Being a triplet he was a little behind last year. He is making up for it this year. If you look at photos of Texas Tea and Challenger you see the distinct features of both bucks. Tea is is a...
Just wondering if a buck sheds 1 or both antlers deeper then normal will that effect his antler growth for that year?
Also if a buck sheds 1 antler 4 weeks before the second one sheds will he's antlers be lop sided?
Thanks Mike
What your opinion of either first hand knowledge or "tribal" knowledge of tranquailizing your bucks to move them during the growing season? Other than undo stress for whatever reason?
For me, I have NOT seen any significant growth problems on those that go down easy or damage from thrashing...
Hey I was wondering how critical it is for bucks to drop there nubs we cut there antlers in the fall. I have heard guys darting medicine into to deer to drop antlers, I also heard of guys changing the feed up to drop antlers. Does this help the buck get an extra start on early growth to grow...
Just noticed this growth today on a doe. Thought she was growing a pair... Hanging from where her nipple should be. She's eating/drinking and acting normal. What should I do? I think the pictures show it clearly. In Mex so won't be fawning for another month or so.
This is our first year to raise deer, my doe's & my buck have these growths on them. They look like huge tick or a mole. They are different sizes from dime size to golf ball size. Does anyone know what it might be &to what I need to do for it.
I have a one year old buck with a growth right behind his shoulder. It looks like a wart about as big around as a quarter and sticks out about an inch. Is this something to be concerned about? It does not appear to bother him.
We had to move Two Yearling bucks this week, both of which were in velvet. they were darted and moved then reversed. they were both out for one hour and ten minutes before the wake up was given to them. We only had to move them a couple of miles. My question is what kind of set back can i...
We put out the game cameras last week and the horns this year seem to be quite a bit better than previous years. The genetics we released have not been out there long enough to be having any impact. We had a much wetter summer than normal so I am wondering if the extra rainfall caused more...
Here are a few pictures. This summer he had a small wound in the spot where the antler grew. Will this shed off or not? Should it just be left alone? If I cut it off will it possible break at the skull? Thanks Jeff
