I have small deer farm in northern Ohio. I have 2 year old buck showing signs of EHD no other deer are sick. My question is should I put him down and burying the carcass to prevent spread to my other deer. He started showing signs 3 days ago and actually looks a little better this morning. Thank you

If it was and he looks better he is likely over the virus and will just have to overcome secondary illness like pneumonia..watch for snotty nose or preemptively medicate for it. Most will be sore footed afterwards so that is not the end of the world.

I gave him 3cc Zactran when I first noticed slobber 3 days ago. Now I have been debating what to do next. Thanks

You are right tonight he is up eating and drinking. He is very lame almost wobbles. How long will he be lame? Can a midge bite him and then infect another deer?

He will not infect another deer by staying in the same pen. The midge may bite many but not all will get infected. He will want water bad if he has EHD so just watch for other signs of another illness.

Blackout was lame for 10 months because his hooves cracked severely. They finally grew out and he got hit again this year so he limps now again. He still grew out pretty good despite the soreness and weight loss. I'd follow up with meds again just to be safe. We have better luck with excede but it's different on every farm what works best.

2 year old buck that was sick 6 days ago up and doing great. My 3 year old breeder buck showed signs last night and died today. I also have 6 year old doe is sick now. I think now I should have put that 2 year old down at the first signs of EHD. Hind sight is always 20/20.
