I have a 3 yr old buck who has a drop tine. A couple days ago I noticed the drop tine was somehow snapped off and is dangling only by the velvet. He hasn't shown any sign of bleeding and seems fine. Is this something I need to take action on or leave it alone ?

Ok, I've never dealt with a broken antler in velvet. I have no idea what to do. Can you help ?

Dart him and cut off. I usually give a heavy dose of Nuflor as well. If bleeding, wrap a wire around to stop it. Spray with Blue Kote and Alushield, which is an aerosol bandage. Spray some kind of fly spray on head/antler area too keep them away.

I just had same issue. The fly eggs were on it with in a day and I knocked him out yesterday. Tiny Maggots were just getting started. I cut it off. No blood in my case.

I used a spray called Catron that kills Maggots, then I sprayed it with Blu Kote. Then I smeared a cream called "SWAT" all over it and sprayed his body and antlers with fly spray that is water proof and says it lasts 17 days. Catron was obtained from a Vet and the Swat cream and fly spray at TSC. I also gave him Nuflor, Long Range and Multimin shots.

GOOD LUCK, Dont wait! The flies will get him !

It’s been a while since I logged on. Thanks Roberts Ranch, I took your advice and he’s doing fine. We can’t be far apart, my farm is in South Beaver PA.
