That's too bad...He must have had more problems that were making that eye look like that. I am surprised too because he looked so good otherwise in the pictures.

Definitely sucks losing fawns, but guess it was meant to go that way with this little guy. Good luck on the rest of your fawns.

Thanks David, Ike and Michael. I appreciate your responces. Allen

Sorry for the loss Allen. It's amazing how fast you can get attached to those little guys. Rick

Allen, Sorry to hear he didn't make it....I was pulling for him.......definitly had more problems than just the eyes and I'm sure you did all you could do!! Good Luck with the rest of your fawns!!

Thank you Rick and Dennis, Like I said before great bunch of concerned people on these forums. Allen

allenb, what are you thinking, was that little guy albino or can pieds have white offspring?

Ike, I am pretty sure he was not albino, due to him having dark pupils. As far as pieds having white offspring, I would say it is very possible. If Jack Oliver is reading this he may be able to shed some light on the pied ,white offspring question. What is your opinon Jack. Thanks, Allen

I was just thinking if he was albino maybe there was something wrong genetically but if he was white that it would be some kind of injury.

Allen,

Sorry I haven't responded to your statement. I've been a little busy with fawns.

Can a piebald have all white fawns? That is a good question, but I say NO !! The piebald gene and the white gene are two completely different genes. When mixed together they do enhance each other, making some spashier colors. I feel that a deer would need to have the white gene in its past to produce a white fawn. Many breeders are mixing whites and pieds together, just like I do. In that case, then YES a piebald could produce a white fawn, simply because the white gene is carried in the genetics. My big white buck Morton comes from my pied buck PATCH and a pied doe. They do both carry the white gene, therefore they can produce a white fawn even though they are both piebald colored.

Hopefully that answers your questions.

Goos luck with the remaining fawn season ALLEN. Keep in touch!!

So then if you breed a white buck with a normal whitetail doe, what would you get? White offspring, brown offspring, or a mix of both?

White is a color...

Albino has no pigment so they have pink eyes...I know "THEY" say blue eyes are also albino but I disagree.I may be wrong

Senneca Whites are white deer with Brown eyes they have no dark hair but can have pigment on noses.

Pied (most) have blue eye's and can be white, white and brown,or white brown and black.

I have had all three you can't can one out of the other without crossing them.

That being said you may have Pied,White,or Albino bloodlines and not know it because they only throw 50%...So a brown deer can have any of those bloodlines.

Is the way I understand it from breeding them.

Can we bring this post back and get some opinions on this? I am in the same exact situation that Allen was in. I was told Dexamethason for the swelling and a none steraroidale eye ointment for dryness. I am just hoping that since this post somone else has run into this and was able to fix it. Any help is appreciated. Thanks
