Kimbolton, Oh
I have a yearling that is loosing hair on her rump. I am not sure if she is pulling it out because the flies, dry skin or something else. The rest of the does are fine.

We put CyLence on all of the does a fews weeks ago because the flies were bad which worked immediately but may be wearing off.

Just asking we hit our 1 year anniversary and still learning, probably nothing but I worry about everything when it comes to my babies.

Any comments would be appreciated.

It's hard to tell from the pics.Use the elimination proccess. Is just losing its winter coat????????Start there...just a thought

Jeff & Tina, look close where the spots are and see if there is a summer coat starting to show underneath. When they are losing their winter coat, the hair comes off pretty heavily if they happen to rub against a fence or something and it could open up a spot where there is no hair. Normally they will not pull hair out at this time of year but sometimes do that during the winter. Hard to tell for sure from the pictures but it doesn't appear to be serious. Keep us informed.

sometimes mine bite at their own rump because of flies or insects, or they rub themselves on stumps or something to get the insects off, I wouldnt worry yet, just keep an eye on her.

Thanks all for the input. She has already lost her winter coat. I will keep an eye on her for any changes to area.

No flies last few days we all have been dodging the rain here in Ohio. Once the sun comes back out  I will see if she is getting bothered with flies.

Will check though on the CyLence I think it is 1 time a month application. Might have to look into something else.

Thanks again,

I as well have a yearling doe that is loosing hair on hind legs ant on top. She is becoming completely balled in spots. Just stated loosing a little over a week ago. All other deer look good. What could this be from and what can I give to help. Thanks

I also have a few of my bucks that are losing hair on their rumps. I don't know if it's from insects and they are scratching it or rubbing on something. But in the past when this has happened when I looked closely at it they would be having the fuzz for their winter coat coming in. It does seem a little early for that though. If any one has any ideas for preventing it, I would be happy to give it a try on my boys.
