Hello,

I have the Tail White Ranch located in central Minnesota. I have now been raising deer for 3 years. I have 2 web sites. http://roboweather.info is my weather web site that updates every 5 minutes with data from my personal weather station. I also have a couple web cams on the site that when operating show inside one of the deer kennels. http://tailwhite.typepad.com/blog/ is the second web site and this one is my blog for my ranch. It has a lot of pictures and a full history.

I also have a question, my yearling buck has a fairly standard/typical set of antlers with 10 points. His main beams have grown to within about 1 inch of each other. This does seem a little strange to me, although they do not look unusual. He had a little trouble rubbing the velvet off because the antlers grew to almost a closed loop and he was not able to get around any decent sized trees to run the inside of his antlers. He did use the fence a little but with only limited success. So has anyone seen antler growth like that? is it typical? will the antlers spread out with age?

Okay that was more then a question, Actually I have another question (or a few questions). I am looking to set up my medicine cabinet and I was wondering what you keep on hand and why. Last week I had to have a friend come over and dart one of my Does so we could look at an injury just above her right front hoof. The Blow dart worked real well to bring her down then we used regular syringes to administer a antibiotic. So I am planning on buying a blow dart set, and I will need to have some medicines on hand. The question is what should I have so I am prepared for the unexpected or even the expected like worms and liver flukes. Any advice and comments is greatly appreciated. I admit there is a lot I don't know and I am hoping some of you are willing to share from your experience and save me some of the problems caused by inexperience.

This is my yearling buck Aslan.

Thanks for that link, I have used that sight frequently. I also found some good information at the Minnesota Deer Breeders Association. http://www.mndba.com/?page_id=812. I still like ask the general farmer out there because all their experience does not always show up on the web pages.

I agree Wayne's one of the old timers in the deer industry hes the one that got me addicted I met him yrs ago when I went over to his place and built his old website Whitetail quest thats when I fell in love with deer he had Indiana Pride then

Welcome, you have a great looking yearling there. As far as keeping drugs on hand, i keep my darting drugs on hand at all times, the only three other drugs i keep on me always is LA200(antibiotic) wormer (I switch brands everytime a bottle runs out so the deer dont build an immunity to one brand) and last I always keep is Vitamin B. As far as the more powerful, more expensive drugs like draxxin and nuflor (other antibiotics) among others, I get them in single syringe doeses from my vet, they are too expensive and they expire before i ever use the bottle because i dont have many deer.

Thanks for your response that is the kind of information I am looking for. So one question for you, when you mention the darting drugs is that the anesthesia and reverser only or do you also administer others with the dart?

Most guys use xylazine/telezol cocktail to dart to put the deer down. Then you use tolazine to reverse.
