I have a doe fawn that is 10 months old and otherwise perfectly healthy. We found her 4 days ago unable to get up. She had no sign of injury yet she could not use her front legs at all. We put her in the barn and have been treating her with dexamethasone daily as well as lactated ringer to keep her hydrated. Day 2 I could hold her up and she would stand breifly of her on. Since then its been down hill. Today she has a lot of swelling in her ankles and is pretty much unresponsive. We did notice two tiny holes about an inch apart on her lower jaw today with sign of rotten tissue. It has been warm the past week but I cant imaging snakes being out. Any advise would be helpful.

Could this possibly be due to a Thiamine deficiency??? Need to ask an experienced deer farmer. This is a tough one.
Search the board for Thiamine and see what you find.
Could she have hit the fence hard? Does her neck and back seem ok? I think you might need to call in a Vet with a portable Ex-ray machine.

Sounds like could be a cat bite. Cat bites often get infected under the skin from the small punctures that often heal over the infection.

This is an odd case considering its her front legs. I have been holding her each time I treat her and have inspected every inch. She doesnt have so much as a scratch, other than the recently discovered two holes in her jaw.
Day two we gave her BoSe, Vit b, and Baytril. Day three she was week so I started an IV to hydrate her. At that time I gave her 2cc Draxxine via IV.
She was just worked in february recieving Covexin8, Fuso, Copper, and cydectine.

Sounds like you are doing everything you possibly can- I am impressed.
That sure does look like a bite. I know that the Deer DVM that visited my doe gave her a long-lasting shot of Excede (for skin infections). But you seem to be "hitting" her hard with your medicine chest already.
For what it's worth, the Excede is also a long-lasting antibiotic, like Draxxin.

Man something bit her........my guess would be snake....but i dont know your weather down there...ours has been unusually warm....everything is starting early this year.......good luck!!
Those holes look very similar to holes I used to find in my fawns over the course of several seasons...a near perfect cylindrical hole that were always the same distance apart. We would find them dead, then see these holes, usually one set maybe two, but mostly one set. Even the ones we found with the holes that were still alive we weren't able to save...so it seems that whatever it was, it was incredibly infectious. And it was always found on younger fawns.
I've never to this day have figured what was causing these holes.
Any of you remember me posting the questions regarding/asking what this could have been that was putting those holes in my fawns??? (3 years ago I think)

We treated her last nite with 2cc exceed and 4cc thiamine. Found her dead this morning. I have no clue what caused it and pretty much treated her for every aspect over the course of 6 days.

My best guess is that she was bit by a varmit and we didnt see the signs until she was already septic. Unfortunately my first guess of an unkown injury was peniciline or exceed, yet we felt it was neuro and decided another path of treatment.
I think the answer is treat an unkown, as infection first, then rule every thing else out.

Does something for infection help at all? Looks infected, probably a stupid question, I know. Could a bat or some kind of rodent bit her? I wonder about the leg swelling being from lack of circulation? Possibly from swelling of infection? Best of luck! Poor girl!
Dr. Ables, the doe died the following day unfortunately. Hope you guys down in TX are doing great! Let us know about your research when you are able to do so.
