Malnourished & Hair Loss

This fawn is approx. five weeks old. He is severely malnourished, bad hair loss on the neck and belly and the rest of the hair is thin, brittle and can easily be pulled out in clumps. He has such a severe hollow in front of his pelvis that you can palpate the anterior portion of his spine. He weighs 14 pounds. The tops of his hooves have large ridges. He has spent the last three weeks with some "well meaning" people who found him near a dead doe and decided to raise him themselves. They were feeding goat/lamb replacer 8 ounces three times a day and offering browse. They brought him to me when he stopped eating three days ago. This is what happens when people with no knowledge try to raise a deer. They thought he looked good until they saw the fawns in our big pen. I have given him Bo-Se, LA-200, Covexin 8 and B Complex. I am afraid of "re-feeding" syndrome. Any suggestions?

Those pictures about made me sick! I wish these people would just leave them alone. Good luck with the fawn.

Don't be too concerned, since I have seen the pic, I am not so worried now. I have seen much worse and managed to save them. You have all of the experience and knowledge you need to save this one. Trust your instincts "grasshopper" you have been trained well.

Good Luck!

Liz, you can do it girl! Keep the faith and rely on your instinct. I agree with Scott you have the knowledge, go for it. This little guy is lucky to have ya. Keep us posted. ZZ

My bet`s on Liz, We`ll have an update soon where she has brought this fawn back to the real fawn world. You go Liz.

Thanks for the vote of confidence guys! I will keep you posted.

Scott, I was trained by the "Master"....

So did the fawn grow his/her hair back and get healthy? Just wondering...I have a fawn that is losing her hair on her belly and back legs. She is perky, happy, eats well and now is spending much more time outside. I see a lot of posts about fawns losing hair but they seem to end there. I'm wondering if mist of the time they end up growing it back and living a good healthy life? If you have time (I know this post was from a long time ago) could you please let me know? Thank you!
