I hope everyone is having better luck than me. I went to feed last night and my big two year old is standing there with only one side now. :( Some time monday night or yesterday during the day he bust it clean off. It stopped bleeding on its own and the weather is cool and some rain hopefully he gets it nice and scabbed over before it warms up again. We got a couple more days of cool weather so I think he should scab over nicely with out having to put him down. I guess thats how it goes. Look for him to be one of the nicest half racks in country lol.

That's alright, Jared, I'll have one like that too this year! Maybe we need a thread started for the best looking/biggest "damaged" racks this year!

Jared, unfortunately that is just how it goes sometimes. I just had some bad luck of my own. My pap accidently spooked my yearling buck pen last month, one hit the fence and broke his back and died. Now just last week something spooked the same pen and my two best looking yearlings, (not even joking the best 2 in the pen of 7), both mangled a side! In my initial anger I wanted to just quit, I started asking myself why me, why always bad luck, But Then when I calmed down and I started feeling better I realized I am thankful they are still alive, that is most important, also they are only yearlings and can redeem themselves next summer, and I also thought how lucky I am to raise deer. I tend to forget how fortunate I am. I know a lot of guys that would give anything to have some deer in a pen, but they can't because of family, finances, jobs, ect..

Jared, I am sure your buck will grow a little something on his damaged side, I had one that ripped out an antler in early June one year, he started growing again and still managed to grow a brow and G2 by end of August.

Man that sucks for you guys but your right...Their still on their feet! Do you guys have them in smaller pens? 7 deer in a pen is by no means alot.

Four Seasons, I have my 7 yearlings in a pen of about 1.5 acres, lots of trees brush and grass. Never had a problem with this pen until this year, its frustrating. I think I have one spooky yearling that's giving me all this grief, when he runs wild they all do. Most are calm 15 footers, but I am starting to notice there is just that one that's a little on edge, I will have to work on him a bit with the treat bucket in the evenings, lol. Best way to (attempt) tame a wild whitetail is through his belly.
