Hey any help is appreciated on this! I have never had this happen and this doe started this swolen leg about 2 weeks ago and it just keeps getting worse. What meds would you guys reccomend? I have done La200 but dont know if we should put her down and lance it. She is not limping or acting like it bothers her but its not normal and needs taken care of! Thanks in advance!

It is retaining fluid ,that for sure.... draining it and a shot of draxxin wouldn't hurt than again if it's just fliud and no infection it should go down by itself

My breeder buck , Spiderman , got an infected lump just below the joint on a front leg last year. I darted him and opened it up....yellow/green tooth paste infection . Squeezed it out , flused with Iodine and disinfectant, sewed it up and covered it with anti-fly salve. Healed up fine but came back to exact same thing 1 1/2 months later. Did same treatment and didn't return. The darting did set him back on antler growth. Also gave him antibiotics both time . Jim

Getting it drained will be very important. Check for some type of foreign object inside of wound. Flush it out with peroxide and get a shot of Draxxin. Keep an eye on it to make sure it does not return. Also, is this doe bred? If so I would not do to much until after she has fawned. If she is not in any distress then you might do more harm then good. Keep us posted.

No she is not bred. We gave her LA200 because we didnt want to tranq her but if you guys suggest tranqing and cutting it open I supose thats what we should do. 1cc of draxxin? She probably about 60-70 lbs.

If there is no visible wound, I would be cautious about cutting into it because of the location of the swelling as related to the knee joint. Accidentally cutting open the joint sack could be detrimental. If she is walking on it and not off her feed, I would give broad spectrum antibiotics a chance before creating a wound by lancing.

I would sedate the animal. Then I would take a 14 guage needle and insert it low in the mass and draw out some fluid. I'm going to assume it will indicate it is infected and at that time I would cut a hole in the front lower part of the mass but just through to the fluid. Drain and flush. Or the fluid will be clear and the only thing you will need to do is suck out the fluid with the syringe. Use a 60cc syringe. Give Draxin and a shot of Fuso guard. The reason I wouldn't wait is fly season will be here soon enough and this should be done as soon as you can in my opinion.

Shiloh is out of surgery and into recovery. We started off with how "Jack" said to use a syringe and suck some fluid out. It started out just clear then started to turn bloody and cudnt suck everything out so we ended up slitting a small hole and squeezed the excess out that way. It had a little bit of yellow pus in there so Im assuming it was beginning to get worse and turn into an infection. We flushed it out 5-6 times with peroxide and water then put some ointment along with fly repellent. Reversal went good and she is back on her feet. Hopefully she is good. She is my best doe fawn from last year and really need to keep her alive. Ive had nothing but problems with her since I got her. Thanks for all the advise everyone!! Im glad I can post something as soon as it happens get replies and then proceed with great information from everyone!! Appreciate it greatly!!

TRO, when you flush a lump that was not exposed to air prior to encising and draining use betadine to flush the cavity it will not damage the surface like hydrogen peroxide can and make the healing time longer, in the case of an injury that has been exposed to air peroxide is useful in the way it removes any proud flesh, then switch back to betadine when washing the area in the future.
