Would you guys let this heal on its own? Or what actions would you try to take in this situation?

Man i hate to see these but they come with the season. Myself..he is young, early in the season and a fairly simple break. I would run him in chute or knock him down and clean him up good. Cut the hanger off, block off any bleeders, spray him down good with fly spray and blue coat, worm him and a medium antibiotic just in case and let him go.  Ofcourse thats all done in 8 seconds in the chute!  Good Luck!

Yes. I don't have a chute. So therefore my debate is do I knock him down or just let him be. Will it hurt much to just let him go as is?

Baseball, knock him down. That will only get worse and will start to bother him if it isn't already. What I do is I take bull castration bands or zip ties and loop around the damage. Tighten as much as possible. Slice the hanging velvet off apply pressure with gauze. Some times the veins don't get full blocked from the band and I will actually use tooth picks to slide into the vein. The tooth pick will swell and stop the bleeding. I then apply a coating of pine tar followed by silver spray. Good dose of penicillin and some exceed and he will be all the better. If you have any questions feel free to give me a call. Ryan

If those are flies on his back, best bet is knock him down and help him heal. I had a yrling do the same thing...he ran around for a month with that broken piece flopping around. We waited for it to fall off but it never did. had to run him thru the chute and cut it off and do as ryan said.

Good stuff Ryan :) thanks
