I'm a 32 year old woman, who's currently a 1st grade elementary school teacher, and I would like to start a deer farm from the ground up. I have had this dream for almost a decade now, since I met my husband and he took me shed hunting. The education field, is ran by people that know nothing about education, and my heart breaks all too often.

What would be the first thing on my list of things to look in to?
I have worked out cost, possible production of does/bucks, breeding costs, land cost, where I could get a loan, which agencies in CO I need to send info to and get approved, maintenance cost, etc.

When I was working the numbers, profit wise: how can this completely take place of my $30,000/year-ish salary? I just don't see how it can be at all profitable.

If I have the land, smarts, love, passion, and about $50,000 readily available to me; in how many years can I quit my job and work my deer farm FT? I don't know if age plays any part in regards to old age, savings, and eventually wanting to travel when I get into my 60's.

I am incredibly serious about this endeavor and would love any helpful advice, words of wisdom, anything. My husband would also like to retire doing this but I would be running it for the first 5-8 years mainly on my own, since he makes more than double my income. This is something I would like to have continued as a family business through my kids. I want to do it right.
