I know this may be hard to pin point but looking for some advice. In 5 years never had this happen and I know most of you have probably seen this.

Today I walked down to the fawn pens and my 3 month old buck fawn has a bad limp. Front left leg. He would put pressure on it when he walked. I haven't seen any wounds on it. He got up and limped about a 100 feet then laid back down. He is laying on that leg. His ears are lowered I'm guessing from pain. Doesn't look broke at all but before I dart him and figure it out of like to get some opinions. I have not seen any lacerations or swelling. I appreciate it

He could have smacked the fence which wouldn't show any signs

Look REAL good around the ankle and below for any swelling and signs of foot rot.

It is also possible he could have a thorn or something between his hooves. Just saw that for the first time myself. Keep a good eye on the lil guy.

if it is a thorn you may or may not have to pull it out. Do you have Mulberry trees in the pen? Do you have any way of getting your hands on him? Best thing is to look him over. Hands on. If nothing is obvious he probably got spooked and smacked the fence. happens all the time. Banamine is like tylenol for deer. you could give him some to ease the pain and reduce swelling. not sure what you have or your handling situation man

Handling facility is not up yet. I'll give him some banamine. No trees. Open fields. 1/4 of the pen I leave hi all summer. Did now most of it and it could have been from the thicker stalks of the weeds/bushes. Thanks again
