My doe fawn is approximately 3 weeks old. I started her on Calf Maker Milk Replacement. I switched her to Ultra 24 five days ago per the recommendations of people on this forum. She has done great with it. She has fresh dirt and water available each day. I also hand feed clover, dandelion greens, raspberry leaves and whatever else she wants to munch on. I have Calf Manna pellets sprinkled with Ultra 24 powder but shes not that into it. I also give a few bites of banana or apple each day. Shes been peeing on her own for about a week now. I've still been stimulating her to defecate twice per day. Most days she only poops once. It's been over 24 hours since her last BM. I gave mineral oil in the past when she wasnt going and it did the trick. I put some in her bottle at 11 last night and nothing. Just tried again this morning and still nothing. It seems like she's straining to go. She passes gas when i do stimulate and it looks like a tiny tiny bit of almost watery substance comes out. Is it enema time? Please help asap! She's acting totally fine other than this.

would hold off until tonight and see if she will go poo she might be going on her own and you just dont know it

I know she's not going on her own. I have her inside with me.

She would poop within minutes of me posting this thread...well now that she has done her business, how often should she be pooping? (So I don't freak out again)

In my experience, at least once a day, usually. Is her poop pelletized yet?

No pellets yet. But it is firm for the most part. She's been doing number two less since I switched her to the Ultra 24.

Firm is good. Whenever poop is not right, you might consider homeopathic remedies-- teaspoon of yogurt or a teaspoon of crushed pumpkin. I would say, that on average, I used the pumpkin every two weeks or so. It doesn't mess up their system, on the contrary, the enzymes and roughage (fiber) help them to form nice poops. Pumpkin also helps regulate them... Try to offer her more leaves as well. Hug. You're doing great! Consider vaccinating also with Covexin-8 and perhaps EHD. The EHD vaccine is not fullproof, but I believe it helped my Rosa.

Thanks for the kind words. I'm pretty sure I'm more stressed than she is at this point. I just want her to be as healthy and happy as possible. I did some reading about the two vaccines and it seems like everyone has their own timing of when to give them. What do you recommended?

All opinions and answers welcome!

I follow Dr. Shipley's schedule and advice re vaccinations. I didn't vaccinate my Rosa until she was almost 3 months old. I was lucky, she was quite healthy. Also, you have to understand that deer farmers vaccinate with many meds, and a lot earlier, because they are in a "production situation," unlike us rehabbers who have only one or two or three fawns at a time. So, we have the luxury of waiting until their immune systems are more developed (and thus able to fight off the "diseases" we introduce via vaccinations). Just keep up what you're doing. Remember that goat milk from a pasteurized source that's healthy, and pumpkin, and yogurt and good sources of browse are very impt for rumen health. Everything you do should focus on helping your fawn to develop a rumen capable of effective digestion and thus, strong immunity.
