5 year minimum CWD monitoring...transferable?

Missouri's law states that no deer can be imported from a farm that has not been CWD monitored and comes back 100% free for at least 5 years minimum....my question is, for those that start new deer farms in other states that we may be interested in, or say someone starts a new deer farm and will later advertise "CWD monitored for...."....is the CWD monitor status transferable, to the deer whose originating herd has the lowest CWD monitored time? Example: A new deer farm purchases 3 deer: 1 from a CWD monitored herd for 10 years, 1 from CWD monitored herd for 7 years, and 1 from CWD monitored herd for 5 years....can they say their herd has been monitored for 5 years? Or do they have to start all over just because it's in a new location? Location changes, but the animals and monitoring don't. Let me know what experiences you all have with this sort of thing.

Also, it's really no different than a deer farmer expanding to a new location 10 miles away, other than keeping the same name.....? Surely the monitor status transfers with it....

Im not 100% sure about missouri but when i got started 3 years ago here in Iowa i bought from a herd that had cwd date as of 10/15/02 and was tb and bruc. accred. and i took the same date as that farm.

This is just a guess, but it would only make sense that the new farm would have the same CWD date as the lowest deer he has gotten from somewhere else. I am in Texas and I am just starting, I am getting all of my does (4) from the same farm, so I would guess I would have the same date as that farm I am getting them from.

Great info, I assumed it had to be the same as the deer from the lowest monitored herd s you guys are saying. It wouldn't make sense otherwise and truly would make it near impossible for anyone trying to penetrate the market. I would assume Missouri is that way but I haven't found the exact statutes for it.

What states have closed borders these days? Sorry it's been awhile and this site has really rounded out my knowledge as far as deer farming throughout the nation.

In Ohio if the first deer you buy is out of state your herd status is put at 0. In Pa you can bring deer in if they are three years monitered. Most states if you buy deer with different statuses then you go by the lowest one.

In Ohio the first deer you buy sets the date for your Tb and Bruc testing. As far as CWD status we inherit the status of the first deer brought in. We do not start at 0 if the first deer is from another state. Ohio requires at least 5 yr status. As long as any deer brought in are at least 5 years your status remains the same. For example my status is August 2002. If I bring in a deer with 5 yrs I still have an 8 year status. If I bring in a deer with less than 5 yrs I drop to that status.

Mark, it is the same way here in PA. So I think PA and Ohio have the same rules.
