Need your help.I had a dog get into my pens tuesday night and tore up my herd. I found an aborted fawn wednesday night. I'm afraid its from my 6 year old goliath doe but not certain. She is still absolutely huge but has scours. If it is from her and there are still fawns in her what should i do? thanks for any help!!!!

it is possible that the one fawn was killed if the doe hit the fence hard, therefore she would have aborted it, but i never heard of just one being aborted. Hopefully the other fawn in her is still ok and she will deliver it ok and on time, however, Watch carefully for the other one, it may be premature. I would dart the doe with c&D antitoxin, thats what i dart all my deer with scours with, it will clear it up quick, I usually give adults a 3cc and a 5cc dart full of the antitoxin.

Stress could cause the scours for sure.....I would not do anything.....the damage is done...i would just keep close watch on aqll the deer.....hopefully, things will get better for you...I would address the dog situation if it were me......Good luck!!

wish i knew who's dog it was. the owner would see the dead fawn and a bill as well! my 2 year old buck was out of his head about 6 inchs with good mass. i was really excited to watch him grow this year. the only place we can find for the dog to have gotten in was a 6 or 7 inch gap by the back gate where it had eroded away some with all the rain. i blocked it up but still really concerned about a repeat episode. i have my neighbors keepin an eye out while i'm at work. i'm going to put electric all the way around the pens hoping this helps but who knows. still concerned about my goliath doe. talked to my vet yesterday and he said to keep a close eye on her for now and if she starts looking ill he will enduce her. really sucks cause she was ai'd to bj.

RTR You need to get 2 or 3 feet of preditor around the bottom of yur fence.Get some around that low area and then the rest as time permits.I have that and electric around my fence and it really is a piece of mind. You know you wont be able to sleep well untill you get yur fence safe again!!! Good luck!!

I ran 1 inch chicken wire 2 feet up the fence and 2 feet out from the fence, in an L shape then covered the flat 2 feet with dirt and then going to pour some quickrete on it and let the rain harden it. I also ran a hot wire about10 inches off the ground all the way around. I wont have my deer until July 1st though. I figure let the predators learn to stay away now. RTR, so sorry for the loss.

thanks everyone for your responses. my deer are starting to heal and calming back down. how i just need mother nature to give me a break with the weather so i can get electric up and get some new pens built.
