Advice on Buck

Being relatively new to the farming industry 1.5 yrs, I do not know what my 2 cents is actually worth but lets give it a whirl.



As far as Optimus I would guess 267. I am not sure how your friend has advertised this buck, but if he has semen available I would keep him another year and advertise him like crazy.



As far as your doe fawn, the direction you want to go is strictly up to you. I would not breed her until next year that would give you plenty of time to do research. The width is there so your options could be adding mass or width or both. I would work on the mass myself.



This is just my opinion.

Well, I can't really help you with your question because I am also new to the business. I do know that Prime is a good looking 2 yo. I do have a question for you though. Do you by an chance have a pic of prime as a yearling? Only reason I ask is because we purchased #417 and #634 from Books and we have several promising yearlings. Just curious on how he looked.

This was developed for all and yes its free to post. Optimus Prime is a great looking buck but when I looked for him on the three sites I could not find him. If your friend has trouble posting ask him to call Apple Creeks customer service and they will help him represent this good looking Buck.

I see you responded to my brother Jason. Glad to hear back from you and Optimus Prime looks great. The photo you posted above seems to have two different pedigrees on it, one for White #750 (Optimus Prime) and the other #824. We bred with alot of the same genetics and, in fact, we now own Red #417 and Orange #634.



To answer your question, our yearlings turned out very well. Orange #634 gave us two buck fawns, one was 212" @ 1 and the other was 175 7/8" @ 1 (with damage to left side). Both had 20" inside spreads. Another doe we have on our farm, Orange #645 is very closely related to Orange #634, in fact, their pedigrees are almost identical. Same sire bred to womb sisters Red #420 and Red #421. Orange # 645 gave us two buck fawns, one was 249 3/8" @ 1 w/droptine and the other was 207" @ 1 w/21" inside spread.



Red #417 gave us two doe fawns in 2009 so we don't have any buck that have grown out from her yet. She did give us a buck fawn in 2010 and we are excited to see how he turns out this year. Her daughters were also bred this past year.



Please keep us posted on Oprimus Prime's progress this year.

That fawn has a very nice pedigree, Book Whitetails with all that Borntrager and Flees. Please keep me informed of OP's progress and let me know how you intend to breed that fawn. Contact me anytime.

Actually two different sires. Tabasco to #634 gave us womb brothers #6 and #8 and Orange #607 (Sunweaver* son) to #645 gave us womb brothers #911 and #912. They had excellent body weight also, #6, #911 and #912 all weighed at or above the 220 lb mark and # 8 weighed 205 lbs.



We have several other promising doe that only produced doe fawns during our first year of breeding with them. Those doe include #417, #603 and #650. This past year they all produced buck fawns and I am excited to see how those fawns will turn out as yearlings.

*Sunweaver is the product of Sundance bred to a Dan Weaver doe.
