I have been doing transcervical AI for the last 4years. I got a hands on lesson from Kelly and Hillary Powell. I am extremely thankful for all the information they have both shared with me. The majority of the deer I AI are being bred b/t 57-60 hours. I am wondering if anyone has bred past 60 hours transcervically, and if so how far out, and what were your success rates? When LAP AI is being done (correct me if I am wrong anyone, I am not a pro) the idea is the eggs have not left the uterine horn yet, this is why the semen is placed directly in the horn. Most LAP AI is done from at 55-58hrs. So if the eggs still have to travel from the horn down to the ******, why do most people AI transcervially at 58-60 hours? I know the semen stays alive for quite some time in the ******, could better rates be acheived doing AI at different times? Again I am not a professional, these are just my thoughts. Please chime in with your thoughts and opinions.

Sincerely,

Johnny B

Johnny i had the privilege of going to the powell's farm and i sucked up years of info in a very short time. They are by far some of the best and most helpful people in the deer industry. I listened and learned from kelly before i bought my ai kit from the michigan deer farmers auction. I just bred my first 2 deer last year,I bred at 56 hours and i hit 100%. It was a great feeling knowing you can breed your own deer and i did a few more this year now that i have had success. I am looking forward to others comments on pushing 60 hours also. You say you have been at it for 4 years now. How has your rate been on your breedings???

Thats who I learned from! The Powell's are great and they are willing to share with everyone and anyone. We have been averaging 75-80% for three years straight. This is with breeding maybe 10-15 per farm on two to three farms. We will see how we do this year as we did over 180 does in four days. We target 60 hours.

My rates for deer 2yrs old and older has been pretty close to 75%, I have bred a very high number of yearlings for the places where I do AI. With out fussing to much either way and for the sake of our conversation I am right at 50% on yearlings. From what I hear, this is a number I can live with. Im glad to hear your doing well Todd. Good luck to you this year.
