American Cervid Alliance - Formed to Protect the Cervid Industry

ER Whitetails,

Thank you very much. You are very correct that this forum only reaches a portion of our nation’s breeders. We need to help spread the word like you are doing. Thank you!

Moreover, the ACA is providing announcement flyers and website links for the state and national associations to distribute to their respective membership via their email blasts and newsletters. Hopefully those will start popping up soon. It is essential each association work their outreach and educate their membership what is transpiring. If someone hasn’t received anything from their association I urge them to inquire with their association’s leadership.

Thanks again for all your help,

Travis Lowe

When I get back to the "big smoke" I'll send a small token of support from my own operation. I've also discussed with our members & exec about sending a small token from the Adventure & Safari Industry Association (ASIA) down here,to show in principle support for this alliance. The consensus from the members was positive when raised.

Hope money orders in $AU are ok.

Stay Staunch

The 2013 Midwest Select Breeder Auction will have seven lots consigned for the American Cervid Alliance. There are some very good items that have been generously donated. These lots can be found on page 130 of the Midwest Select catalog.

The Midwest Select Auction is February 14-16 in Wilmington, Ohio.

A big thank you goes to everyone that donated for this auction and to Eric Pinkston and Midwest Select for making this possible. Midwest Select was the first auction group to offer to help the American Cervid Alliance. THANK YOU!!

I would like to thank everyone that was on the conference call Thursday night and everyone that supports the ACA. In my opinion, there is no truer symbol of progress when we see friends and neighbors work together to help each other. Everyone in this alliance is a volunteer. There is no paid office staff, just volunteers believing in a cause to make this industry better for everyone. Thank you.

There are so many injustices facing our industry right now. The double standards, lack of science based legislation, moratoriums, unfunded mandates… where does it end? The events taking place in Iowa, Missouri, Minnesota, New York and even at the federal level stands against our fundamental rights we were given in 1776. The fact that every one of us is just one positive test sample from being driven out of business should be a wake-up call to every breeder out there. Something is wrong with the status quo. We have private property rights.

It is essential we have open communication and think big picture. Supporting the ACA comes in three ways- spreading the word of our mission, association representatives participating on conference calls and monetary donations. One member raised reservations about associations supporting the ACA by essentially shifting their own funds and should instead wait to raise funds when there is a battle. I respect that opinion but my concern is looking at the big picture. Some associations are large with high membership in a state with thousands of cervids with prominent breeders to help ignite fundraising on a moment’s notice. Other states have much smaller associations. Smaller associations with just perhaps two or three dozen breeders and the associations struggle to operate in the black. It is essential the ACA have power ready to defend. Shawn Shafer once told me, “we can’t wait until there is a fire before we build a fire department.” I completely agree with that and in that very spirit would believe we cannot wait until a battle to prepare.

The beauty of having this open forum of communication is on these calls we can have a majority consensus of how to spend money when that time comes. No one man or subcommittee will determine that.

We are already seeing individuals send in checks, donate hunts and donate semen for auctions. It is amazing to see what can happen when people are willing to work for a cause.

Any donation to the ACA, big or small, goes DIRECTLY to the defense of this industry. It will not be re-appropriated for administrative, newsletters or banquet expenses. Rest assured, your dollar will be used to defend this industry and is an investment to preserve this industry for future generations.

I am honored to work with all of you and thank you again for your participation.

Very well said Travis. I agree with you.

It's interesting that the DNR or Conservation Agencies are leading the fight to close the borders of some states for "health" reason, when the Board of Animal Health agencies [veterinarians] don't think there is any merit in this. They think the borders should remain open. Yet these same DNR or Conservation Agencies want to bring in "untested", "non-status" animals into their states. Double standards or what !!!!!

Whats it take to be on these conference calls? Sent a couple requests in for a number and a time and got no reply! We have our own lawyers and fight going on up here and would kind of like to know what direction this is going!

Mike,

Email me at [email protected] and I will make sure you receive the information. We did discuss the New York issue on our last call and gave Dave some direction to take with the Department of Ag in New York.

I got the Midwest Select catalog today. The ACA lots on are on page 130. Thanks to all for donating some excellent lots. Lot 7 was donated by Jim Moses of Dakota Whitetails.

Page 131 is an info. article about who and what the ACA is. A big thanks to Eric and crew for doing this. Well done!!!

I have been on the fishing trip with Travis Barker [lot 1], if you like catching lots of big fish, you need this one!

Happy to see deerfarmers working together. Just wondering though, the alliance seems like NADEFA, at least as I understood it. They bring all cervid industries together along with state organizations to form the national organization. Maybe I am missing something since this is a long thread. I realize NADEFA has a lot of "arms" that focus on different issues and maybe this is just one.

Wild River Whitetails,

Thank you for your post. The American Cervid Alliance is a leadership council of representatives from 34 different cervid associations. It is not a new association or subsidiary of an existing one. It is a think tank forum of all the leaders to examine conflicts, seek options and execute a solution. The ACA is strictly tasked with the defense of the industry whereas national and state associations also support that cause but have to function and provide membership services, banquets, newsletters and so forth.

NADeFA has participated as one member of the alliance with everyone else on all the calls. On the last meeting, NADeFA’s leadership indicated they would support the alliance and help spread the news of its mission. The ACA appreciates their help and we look forward to seeing their impact.

There has never been this many associations working together from the deer and elk world. It is a very good thing.
