I know it may sound a little odd, but he is showing the effect of the weight of the antlers 3 weeks earlier this year than last year. Should I be concerned about this? My wife says, "poor deer!" Paul, should I stop using shock effect?

He looks great but i would have to say if you are using antler enhancement products you are bringing on the problem. If hes not genetically a large body deer able to carry the weight and he gets heavy on the top end something has to give!!

No way shock effect or any other antler enhancement product can add that much bone. If it did we all would use it and have 500+ inch deer. Genetics is still the biggest factor in superior deer. I'm not just saying big name genetics. The right combination of any 2 deer could produce a big deer. However the biggest deer today all have names we recognize in there pedigree.

Yup i agree 100%... So why feed shock effect or any other antler growth product?????Todays deer with the breeding we have at our disposal should not need any help growing a head full of bone!!

Looks good. Nice problem to have if you have to have problems. Congrats Mr. Ervin !

This is so true. Some things are just over rated. We have use several so called antler growth products this year and select group of bucks and they are not doing any better than the ones that are on nothing.

With the cost of feed going up and the price of deer going down how can one spend that kind of extra money on so called antler enhancers.

I just want to help clarify why some people supplement their deer's feed with probiotics and enzymes. "Antler enhancers" do not go above and beyond a buck's genetics. In other words, antler enhancers/probiotic & enzyme supplements assist your bucks in reaching their maximum antler growth that their genes will allow.

The probiotics also helps your deer fight off any sickness. If your buck becomes sick during the antler growing season, then you are screwed! Breeder or shooter!

When you spend a fortune in good genetics, then obviously you want to get the most out of it.

Loyd, just my personal opinion but that Buck is the nicest one you have had since Larry. I would not be overly concerned until you recognize the weight interferes with him eating. Then there is always when he is trying to shed his velvet and flys and so forth! Great deer and good luck- Jason Savage

Im using shock effect for the first time this year and I must say that right now Im sold on it!! Steve and faye thayer have been very helpful !! I have two bucks on my farm that have two direct brothers that I sold to another farm as fawns , they are now two year olds , they are very nice but there brothers on my farm are smoking them I feel !! actually all five of my yearling bucks are very impressive and all are on shock effect!! they also have clover in there pen and live very stress free lives so Im sure this helps!! Im not trying to start anything Im just expressing my opinion and observations to this point in the growing season. Remember its not how they start its how they finish, so time will tell!!!

I just dont get it i guess.Probotics for health yes i can see that but if a deer is bred to grow a rack he will grow that rack with no extras.I also have some bucks on the move and all they get is great high protien feed and minerals and an extra stress free life. You can have two different brothers on two different farms with no extra enhancers and just the lifestyle and the deer itself will make them two different animals. There are many, many farms that dont feed extras and they grow 300in plus deer and then there are many, many that do and they grow 300in plus deer....You tell me the difference!!

Well I guess thats why I said time will tell! there are many variables that is for sure, but I really like what I see so far with this product! It may not be for everyone, but I for one like it! remember probiotics help with overall health and condition of the animal. I heard mike you have a nice rosevelt yearling on your farm , seems like he is producing some nice sons. Dustin has a couple big ones also! Good Luck!!

Scott i think im going to have to look a little deeper into some kind of extra health kick for my deer also.I may have misunderstood the whole idea of the product. I myself wont and dont think anyone should feed something just to make alot of bone.I know its a double edged sword because i realize we are in this to make bone but we also must remember that these deer are not all capable of handleing that much weight.Like the original post shows that the deer is struggling a little to carry and its only june!!If its a product for the total health of the deer im all for it and need it.If its just for bone..No thanks!! I will do it through proven bloodlines, great feed and give them such a stress free life that it makes me wish i was a deer.Lol..Our yearling out of dustin's roosevelt is making leaps and bounds everyday.I cant imagine owning a 200in yearling but if this guy keeps the pace he is going it could be a reality.I think in the next year or two you are going to see dustin turn a head or two.He has sent me some pic's and im sure you have seen some also.He has deer right now that are just unreal.I wish he would put some pic's on here but you know he likes people to go to his place for farm visits and you can bet i will be there in late aug or early sept. Hope to swing by you place on our travels!

Im only about 10 minutes from him so Ill see you then!!!

Loyd, that is one great looking buck! I will get a hold of Paul and have him get with you on this. He has been pretty busy lately, and doesn't have as much time to get up here as he would like, but I don't think you have anything to worry about just yet, just make sure it is not interfering with him feeding.

Hey Scott and Jeremiah, thanks for the kind words and explaining what Shock Effect does for the deer. Scott, I'm glad you're happy with it, hope it exceeds all your expectations.

Mike, I will try to give you a quick explanation of what the Shock Effect Genetic Enhancer is, and what it does for the deer, to expand on what Jeremiah and Scott have said.

"Shock Effect was formulated for several reasons. The first one was overall health of the deer, second was antler development. We knew that probiotics would play a major role in the future of helping to keep our deer healthy and help to grow bigger racks by increasing their absorption rate. It starts with the bacteria package itself. Because of the way a whitetails digestive system works and the speed of their metabolism, the micro-encapsulation processes were the best option. We then had to find out which encapsulation process was best suited for the whitetails digestive system. Once we knew which process we wanted, it came down to the bacteria count itself. Through some friends we were able to locate what we believe is the best micro-encapsution lab in the country. With the bacteria count at its optimal level in the deer's digestive system it leaves much less room for any bad bacteria to take hold and grow to levels that will affect the deer in a negative way. Next on the agenda was to find out what amino acid combinations would increase blood flow and expand blood vessels the most. Then we added Kelp because it has 28% minerals by weight. The minerals are naturally chelated to enhance the bio-availability. Kelp consists of over 70 vitamins, minerals, trace elements, enzymes and natural growth hormones. We also found a cactus plant known as Yucca Schidigera whose sole purpose is for intestinal health. This made for a complete package from start to finish all in one product."

Remember, Shock Effect is all natural. Whatever the deer's body doesn't use goes straight out the back end. It will not make the bucks grow more than their genetics and feed will allow. As stated above, it gives you the maximum potential of the genetics you have as well as the maximum potential of the food your feeding. We spend way too much money on both not get the maximum potential from both.

As anyone who has talked to me at any of the shows or auctions can tell you, as I start talking to them, I explain to them that this product starts and ends with herd health. A healthier buck will grow a bigger rack. I explain to them that it will not turn a 170" genetic buck into a 250" buck. Will it help him grow a larger rack, yes, but as the name "Genetic Enhancer" states, it only enhances what you already have to its maximum potential.

If anyone has any further questions about the Shock Effect products, you can call Steve or Paul and they can explain the product more thoroughly to you. You can get more information and their contact info from the website. www.shockeffectprobiotics.com

Sorry for being so long, but this is about as short as I could make it. Hopefully it makes scense to you.

My goodness! I was just trying to have a little fun. I did not intend to stir the pot. Fun for some is not necessarily fun for all. I do want my deer to use as much of the feed I give them as they can. I cannot afford to use their poop to fertalize my pens. I feed Shock Effect to all my deer, bucks and does. I like the way they look, bucks and does. I will cut HBA's antlers when his velvet dries up and I am sure he will be more comfortable then. Jayson: Thank you for the compliment. Larry was a good looking buck. I will use his semen in HBS's daughters some day. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and I think you have a good eye. And Thanks again! I did not realize until you said something why HBA did not clean his velvet off very well last fall. They were to heavy! I will watch him close this fall for flys ect.. Loyd L. Ervin

Loyd, Your bucks all look incredible! Do you still have the Maxin buck with the long main beams and big drops that's on your web page that was 2 last year last year, I'd love to see what he looks like this year?? I also think I'm going to order the Shock Effect, looks like it couldn't hurt!!
