You may recall I had a rough start with my first experience with BAM . After the experience I learned that it was temperature related combined with ignorance . Wildlife Pharmaceuticals was tremendously helpful in furthering my education on BAM use. I have been raising deer since 1979 so it is kind of old dog new trick.

I had reason to move 3 bucks last week end. Three 2cc darts of BAM on 3 bucks weighing approx 275lbs each , and reversed on the trailer in a hair over 45 minutes..are you kidding me. The best part is I arrived back at the ranch 2 hours later. There was no visual lagging tranquilizer effect and I was able to unload the bucks directly in with the stockers. No more staging in another area for recovery. Absolutely incredible. BAM is the new cocktail on our ranch..

I will be putting some to the test this weekend as i have to help a new farmer get some deer to his place and he bought BAM.  So we shall see if they get new a customer soon!

I remember reading your post when you had trouble with it last time. I am glad you got things turned around.

I remember how reluctant I was to switch to BAM, but I couldn't ignore all the good reports from other farmers. So I got some back at the end of February.

I used it for the first time 2 weeks ago. And again this past weekend when I sold a bred doe. All deer were out, and reversed better than my best cases with the xylazine cocktail.
 
I have been using Xylazine @ 1cc / 100lb but I have been having some trouble with this I doesn't seem to work on all deer. What is BAM and how do I get it. I asked my vet but they couldn't help me, they can only give me Xylazine.

Are you using Xylazine alone to try and put them out?
 
Yes, that is all I have been able to get and Xylazine gives me mixed results some times it works well and other times they never even go down

give Zoopharm a call and they will guide you thru the steps to obtain BAM. Basically you need a prescription from your vet and Zoopharm will ship direct to you and bill you. Some vets don't like that system, being left out of the loop and no profit.

Have you ever used the cocktail and not just straight Xylazine?  They say Bam is good but i have heard of stories of them coming out of sedation and others of not reversing. I guess everybody has their fix but i just have never had a bad reaction using the cocktail and reversing them. Maybe because they are so tame?  Not real sure!
 
Tail White, I am pretty sure Xylazine is just a Muscle relaxer it takes away there ability to move but the animal still know you are there they just can't move , I would think that is a lot of stress on your deer , Do not do any surgeries with straight Xylazine.
 
Although our start with BAM was a little rough we have really developed a liking . It sure is nice shooting smaller darts and not having to wait for reversals.
 
We switched to BAM about a year ago and love it! They reverse quickly with no side affects. We have had great experiences with it and we dart a lot of bucks to move them to the hunting ranch. Works great.
 
BAM is my go to. I have done 1000's of sedations and when a breeder is down and asleep in 10minutes, no temperature spike, and no hunger over appearance i cant go back! Just my opinion!

If you mix 4-6cc's of Xylazine to one bottle of Telazol you can put about any deer down and out with a 11/2cc dart. Many of mine are out like a light with 1cc of the cocktail but i have never had to go higher than 11/2cc to put out any deer. The one drug works on the body and the other works on the mind.
 
Am I looking at the pricing right on bam 265 for what says 6-9 deer. Roughly 40 dollars a head just seems high
 
That is not totally correct. Adult females can go down with 1cc and mature 3+yr old bucks take 1.5-2cc.

Zoopharm is figggering high dosages to be sure and put down ANY deer. I have used it for many years and find that I can use way less than they recommend.


 


1/4-1/2 cc will put out most any young deer up to 150 pounds. If it isn't enough to knock em out you can always walk up and hand stick some more into the deer.


 


I have a buck I have to do surgery on every 4 months, I use 1cc of BAM to knock him out for a 45min surgery. I use nothing else on him. He weighs around 180-200 pounds depending on time of year. He is 12 years old, and has been sedated with BAM or just M at least 45 times.
 
I have a calm herd, not tame but they are calm....until they see the dart gun atleast. I use .5 ccs to put out any buck on my farm. Does I have used as little as .3ccs and they all sleep like babies. A buddy of mine had a fence crasher that needed moved, I darted him with 1 cc and he slept for the hour ride to his new home.. backed trailer in barn, unloaded, the buck, took him to his pen and reversed.. up and crashing fences 10 mins later...
