PS. the date on the photo is wrong!!!!

I have seen black bears run down elk calves. I'm amazed it didn't kill any deer. I would think it is just a matter of time. With fawning season coming if it isn't removed you are going to lose fawns and then adults. I would ask the DNR to remove him. If they can't help I'd treat it like a any dog in my pen and then it will not be a problem. We have a right if not obligation to make our pens safe for our animals.

So...... are you gonig to wait until it kills .....How many? if it is just "digging" what else is it letting into the preserve? you need have him removed....A bear will not go away by itself, I suggest you go have a nice long talkwith him/her, ( 200 yards @ 2900 fps.) should do the trick.

We have had bears in and out of our preserve but not in our breeding pens. They will climb over the fence as well as under it. We've had APHIS come out and set some traps - sometimes they get one and sometimes they just disappear.

My fathers ranch manager received bear tag few years back and shot 475 pound giant. Guess the years of baiting is causing them to hang around.

So can you put strands of electric up or is fence too long? I am curious how a guy handles this any other way than 2900fps as Curtis suggests.

I agree with Curt I would get rid of it with a nice shot. I wouldn't want to take the chance of hurting/killing any of my deer.

SSS,sure would make nice rug.or wall hanger.i have found lot of things can happen sometimes you got to narrow things down a bit.Dc

What you all are proposing is illegal here in WI. Only if you have a tag can you shoot a bear and getting a tag is not easy. Where we live, it took us 10 years to get a kill permit. Ridiculous since there are bears everywhere here. We heard that nearly 50 bears were relocated from a nearby farm (not a deer farm), where they were into their corn.

As stewards of our animals we have to try to keep them safe as we have removed their only defense away from them, which is run away. We are responsible for their safety and have to protect them from predation.

As stewards for all wildlife we need to be responsible for proper removal of wildlife. Your first legal option would be to have the bear removed by the proper agencies. If that fails then the responsibility falls on the producer to protect his livestock from predation by lethal means. In Montana we can kill anything that kills private livestock. Sad to say you have to have one of your animals hurt.

as wild river whitetails said we need a bear permit to kill it . And the DNR is likely not to remove it.

It's illegal to drive over the speed limit too. Get rid of it or don't complain about the deer it kills.

Our ranch manager shot a 475 #bear 2-3 years ago. Chad was lucky to get another tag this year and so he is hoping it stays around. Yes my father wants to find a legal way to keep the bears out. His idea is to wrap a short (3 foot or so) barrier around the base of the fence so that it curls outward a foot or two. We'll keep that buried under some brush and the bear shouldn't be able to dig through that the same way he got under the fence last time.

Isaac I respect the fact that you guys play by the book and respect the laws......I only hope it doesn't come back to haunt you........you have a lot of nice whitetails running around there that Mr. Black Bear would like to have in his stomach. I hope it all works out for you!!
