Has anyone noticed that some of the elite farms from across the US had rejoined the forums? We are getting input from all over, maybe its just advertising at a cheap price, but maybe they will stick around.

Hey jay couldnt help but notice.this forum has turned to big advertising.and should be used as such. that what this is all about, using the forums. I tell ya if i had nice big buck i be showcasing him for sure. maybe not 20 times, most likely, some will get back to bussiness, i guess enjoy them posting some bucks, which some of us never would see. i not a forum patrol either but i sure wished All would use farm and ranch is the proper place for these pic and leave the bar and lounge for its purpose. BS! BS! post under right catagorys, only my thinking.i never so so many nice bucks in my whole life. just wished little more organized. what a mess, just wanted to ***** little! like bunch rednecks. DC

I would just like fort hem to respond when small farms have questions rather than just appear to showcase thier farm and go away. They have lots of info we could all use.

So, I'm asking: Everbody that has been involved lately, it would be nice if you could stick around when a problem comes up.

I think most "regular" users will take it in one of two ways..... One, YES we're catching up to em! or Two, OH NO, the markets going down! THEY'RE advertising on here too......

Any way you take it it's nice to see good bucks from some of the best farms in the country. As to answering questions, I'll just stay out of that one.............

From my contacts in the industry, I think alot of deer farmers (large and small) are realizing the political climate in this country has changed and with a super majority in congress the leftists can take us out of business with the stiroke of a pen and unless we are united, there is little chance of stopping them. I for one welcome them back with open arms, as we have to have a strong voice to protect our rights. If you doubt my reasoning attend any town hall meeting with one of your elected officials and see what I mean. The silent majority is waking up to the fact that if we stand by and let the politicians run amuck, we are the ones that will ultimately pay in the end.

Interesting observation Reed. I think we'll here from most of these types about this time each year and not much in between, but you never know.

In my opinion Reed has hit he nail on the head. Many of the big farms you will only hear from this time of the year. You have a voice when you buy your semen. I have noticed this on the local level also. The big guys only want to hear from you if they have something to sale. I prefer to buy from people who will help the small farmer . /they seem to forget it is the many small farmers buying their products that keeps them going.

I would hope some stick around i would like some feed tips, i see yrlngs with the body size and cond, of a 2yr old! mine just dont quite get that body in yr, Any tips? tried lots commercial, fed other mixed for bucks. just cant get what i want, Dc

I hate to say this but it is true so there ya go...

I recently sent out an email to 40 different farms asking about what they do as a routine for vaccinations at birth, and at all ages at any time of the year. I wasn't asking for their secrets, just a general idea about their vaccination programs. I even said if they wanted something kept under raps I would do that. I was just trying to get enough info to establish a pattern as to what many use.

Out of the 40 emails sent I got back like 7 responses.:mad::mad:

You can bet your sweet butt I know who replied back and who didn't!!!:eek::eek::eek:

And I am a semen buyer:D:D:D

HUMM...Mental note to self...Never Piss Roger off!;)

Roger

I am only a little shocked... I had deer as pets for Years...Met a lot of great people...Dumped a pile of money into it this year and went to my first few auctions joined (PADEFA & NADEFA) Which I think is important...BUT snakes come out when ever money is involved

You can take anything you can think of and you can find a way someone tried to make money from it from Cancer to Katrina...

I got so upset this year after buying "expensive stuff" because the snakes came out...and because I had changed everything me and my kids loved about owning deer...I have gotten over that to a point because I have met a lot of great people...But it is amazing how just a few can leave you with a sour taste and gun shy to trust....But I thought the numbers would have been higher than that huh...That's sad:(

I would hope everyone would help out when someone is in need...but there is always that person waiting to kick them also.

Thanks for sharing your findings Roger.

DC, not sure it is of the just the feed that makes the silze of the animal. I think it is the genetics that has alot to do with it.

If you feed a small structured person alot of good feed, with high fat and protein they will only get wider not taller.

Just my thought

I can tell you I have done the same thing in sending out for information. Same results as Roger. I then started visiting farms, same thing there. Many do not want to share much with you. I recently visited a farm North of me. I took 4 amish with me that were interested in what they did to grow deer. The farm has 1400 very well groomed and well cared for deer. I have to say I believe it was the cleanest farm I have ever been on. I think on the 4 hour tour I might have seen enough flies to count on one hand. Well during the tour I had all kinds of questions about things they did on their farm. I would see something different and ask what they did that for. There were no secrets at all the whole time I was there. Now when it came to the feed program we all got to ride and feed so we could actually see what they did. There were no secrets here either. We were told that their feed program was not a secret because that was not what put all of the antler on the heads of their animal. We were shown exactly what they did to feed the genetics they have to grow the horns that were on the heads of their bucks. Several of the guys that went with me were also given a list of what and where to get it and why it was important to the animals. Well long story is that they are the kind of people I want to do business with. I have since made several trips back (3 1/2 hour drive one way) just to take others to learn with me. The best part was they never once tried to sell us a thing, and never said anything about others farms to make theirs look better in any way. I am sorry for the rambling but I just wanted to share a great experience that I had. I will not post the name of the farm as it may seem that I am promoting them. If you are interested in the whole story or would like more information on this farm contact me and I will tell you that way.

James i understand genetic thing, im after body cond. like i see lots others. yrlng that has body of two yr, old.i know they got some good feed advice but talking feed worse than milk.

Talking about a one year old looking like a two year old.

I was always told if duck look like a duck quack like a duck walked like

What I have noticed is that you can almost pick out the buck fawn that will be the biggest yearling rack the following year. I called it now 3 years in a row here. The body conformation on some bucks is just different and I notice it translates into the racks the following year. All the deer eat the same exact feed so that isn't it. And I have seen the difference even between womb brothers so that isn't it. I guess it is for the same reason my brother is 4" shorter than me, but he has always been 100lbs heavier than me.

Roger, are you telling me Shredder is the largest buck fawn this year? I agree, the largest buck fawns seem to be the largest yearlings. One thing to remember is the birth date of the fawns. Two weeks or a month is a long time in their maturing process.

It must be different down here. You can't pick the biggest buck fawn to be the biggest yearling. It never works for me. One of our smallest fawns is a Manny(Bucky/Highroller)/BL P.J. cross, and is small as a fawn. At 65 days old he is showing horn pedicals.........

Well let me say a little more about what I meant above. I didn't really mean the buck fawns as they stand in the pen at this time of the year. I mean going into winter. Mostly around the month of Dec. I don't care about what a fawn has or doesn't have for nubs on his head either. I have found here at least that the nubs mean nothing later on. I look at just the bodies and how they are filing in during the winter months.

Michael, I have no ideas on Shredder at this point. We can only hope, which I am hoping for the best.
