Biggest Big Guy Son?

They have big deer down there, i have a doe from them with Little O23 in the pedigree either 3 or 4 times!! She is a Hoss daughter out of a Wildman doe. Had a buck fawn this year in early July out of Jailbird, we'll see!!

Jens, i bought jailbird and we knocked him down tonight to cut his antlers. He damaged one side but would have been bigger than ever. He is a beautiful buck, and his button bucks in his pen are very impressive! Your buck fawn is going to be nice you can bet on it..

I will try to get some pictures posted of him soon!

Would love to see pics of him this year, as stated i have that buck fawn from him, but i also have a straw of semen from him to use.

Seems he always wants to damage one of his antlers, annual event for him.

Thanks for the update.

I was hoping that today I could add to the discussion the official scores of the 2 Big Guy sons we have here. Today during our TB testing we knocked down both Updraft and Downdraft. Unfortunately I was unable to get an official scorer to attend today. I did however have 4 other farmers here besides my wife and I and the vet and his assistant to do the first circumference measurements, the beam lengths, and the width measurements. I will still need to give the cutoffs to an official scorer now to see what they come up with.

We also tried a new technique of molding the burrs to allow the antler replicator to have greater success in replicating the entire antler to the most exact dimensions. The molding stuff worked REALLY well, and I was lucky to have a taxidermist here to assist with the molding of the burrs on both Updraft and Downdraft.

Each of the 4 other farmers did the measuring for us and recorded the numbers. This was the best we could do this year to this point. I don't know what more I could have done to be as legit as I possibly could.

i seen that deer in person and fell in love with him pictures do him no justice along with jailbird wildman and the rest ive said it before and ill say it again i would love to have some of the shooteres he shoots for breeders great people great deer youll know what im talking about had you ever met them keep up the great work guys see you soon

Roger, Our scores were unofficial, as the antlers were threw in a pile of antlers in the corner of the shed among the other 80 nice sets that were cut the last few days.I'm sure there would have been no arguement if you would have just scored him, but i believe barkley's is the biggest two year old Big Guy son that we are aware of.

Well Kurt, My post was in no way saying anything about how or who did the scoring on Barkley's bucks. The thread is about Big Guy sons and since I own a couple I was just jumping in is all.

If the buck you guys are talking about is the biggest so be it. Updraft to this point was the biggest I knew of and if he isn't as of this year that is fine too. I still like my bucks and am proud of them.

I guess if we raised 80 bucks we would toss antlers to the side on a pile also. But since we only own 10 bucks total on the farm I feel we do pretty well on our production here and we like to have them officially scored the day they are cut. But I made several calls before hand and couldn't find any one available. Not even Scott at Apple Creek could send his scorer over to help yesterday. It is just a really busy time of year.

I guess it is good to see Big Guy getting some credit now for the sons he is producing. He is a fine buck and am glad I still have more straws of him to use at some point here.

It sure is fun to make the various crosses and see what results. Glad Barkley's made their cross and had success with it.

Jens, Here is jailbird damaged at 4 ..

We got the numbers back from the official scorer who scored both Updraft's and Downdraft's cutoff antlers. Although he is an official scorer since he was not present for the antler removal we will be only advertising Updraft and Downdraft as estimated this year.

Also the scorer decided not to credit all of Updraft's circumference measurements since he thinks some of them could be considered "palmation." Therefore he used the first 2 smaller mass measurements in place of the others.

Updraft 317 6/8" at age 3

Downdraft 225 7/8" at age 3

Not a bad set of triplets Dolly had there. I only wish the third boy had lived:(

Take note that a very special 2010 Poncho doe fawn maybe be selling at auction this season out of Dolly.
