I have been wondering whether my 9-month old doe fawn should be RE-vaccinated or given a booster shot for the two vaccines she received at 3-months of age?

Do deer get booster shots and if so, how frequently, please?

thank you.

We usually give our EHD vaccine closer to the midge fly season. Maybe June or so. They need two shots initially and then a booster once a year.

Thanks Bucksin! Dr. Shipley sent me the vaccines last summer (you're right there were 2 of them then). So I will need to do the EHD again this year, huh?

gee buck you get ( midge ) that far north, should i consid, this in NJ, ????

We don't get them every year but if it gets hot and dry the river quits flowing and as the pools of stagnent water start going down it leaves those muddy edges where the midge flies live. I have been lucky but a farm just 6 miles east of me lost some a couple years back. I wouldn't think you would have to worry as much over in NJ. Rick

In the suburbs of Chicago and Northwest Indiana we had an EHD epidemic last summer. They estimate that more than 80% of our adult wild deer died. This year I see many yearlings around the neighborhoods and fields, but very few adult does and/or bucks. It was a horrible sight and smell last July and August around these parts of Illinois.

It's a fact, EHD has killed more deer than CWD ever has. When an area is hit by EHD there is usually close to 90% of all the deer in that area found dead from the disease. The fact also is CWD is not going to cause this massive die off like EHD does. CWD does cause State money to be alloted for the eradication of that disease in an area. This is called job security for the people working with CWD. A cure may be found but it will not help wild deer as it will not be able to be given to wild deer as they will not be able to give it to each animal. On the other hand we deer farmers will be able to give it to all our deer if a cure is found which is great. We can protect our deer from EHD with the shots the Mo. group made. Thank you guys so much.
