I have an idea of when to start upping the feeding amounts and decreasing the number of times you feed fawns. We have been bottle feeding two fawns 4 oz a feeding at 6am, noon, 6pm, and 1130 pm (they are two weeks old today). I think it is about time to up the amount of milk and decrease the number of times you do it, but im not sure. The fawns are both pooing and peeing on their own, but we keep a close eye to make sure they still go to the bathroom throughout the day. What are my options? Thanks

on whole milk you need to be feeding them all that they want. I am feeding two week old 12+oz 4 times a day

Whole milk is fine it is what i use and I have had very good results....but use what your most comfortable with........but if you are using the whole milk Richie is right ...you want to feed them a lot more....we say all they can eat but be smart if you have a fawn that does not know when to stop you have to cut him off........but your not feeding your fawns enough if you are using whole milk........you can go to three times a day but let them eat what they can handle to within reason....i feed mine three times a day i use 20 ounce bottles.....sometimes they drink it all and sometimes they drink 3/4 or 1/2 of the bottle.......I have one that polishes off the 20 ounces everytime and acts like he is still starving...now he is one of those that you got to watch...he would eat till he blew up if I let him.............hope this helps!

Thanks...I jumped them up this morning and the doe took about 14 oz, the buck about 12. My only concern is that the buck fawn is still small and his belly get very large when he eats. I gently stroke his belly from his front shoulders back to his backside after he eats. Is this a concern? He isn't nearly as big as his sister, so I think I should hold him back a little. Can u let me know?

Ferguson,

Some may disagree with me hear but I have a little runt and he will eat 20 ounces sometimes and yes his little belly does stick out....he has been fine and growing good.......he should be able to handle 12 to 16 ounces fine with no problems.......fawns can over eat and the milk can spill over into their rumon which could cause problems.....but I am certain your fawn will be fine with the amount i said above......most fawns will quit when the are full....you will be able to tell because they will start messing around with the nipple spitting it out alot.........

yep i got the messing around part at this afternoons feeding....the buck took about 12 ounces and the doe 14....they are doin fine....they both poo and pee on their own already so i just keep a close eye to make sure they stay regular

I have some about 2 weeks old on whole milk and they are eating any were from 15-25oz per feeding. My older ones are about 6 weeks old and are eating 20-45oz per feeding this is only three times a day now. Just make sure to give plenty of fresh dirt at least every other day or probiotics of some kind. So far this is working better than anything i have used in past.
