I have a buck fawn that the 3 yr old mother refused to have anything to do with. She took the doe fawn fed and cleaned for her. The buck she cleaned him but that was it and after repeated efforts still no luck. Brought him in warmed, fed colostrum and he atte about every 2 hours last night and looks fine.

But when he stands his front legs look like those of a spider! I have had them bowed in and they got along fine. I have never had one with legs bowed out like his..........So what do you all think or have been your experiences ?

Thanks in advance for any help or info!:)

I had one last year that all four legs bowed backwards when she walked..kept feeding her and eventually they got strong and went normal..she is normal today

I have had bow legged fawns before...never did anything for them...didn't know of anything I could do. They always straightened out and were totally normal as adults.

Bought a fawn once that was a little bowed. As it got older and heavier it got worse and finally I put it down because of the apparent pain and struggle to walk at one and a half. Jim

This little guy is bow legged but is unable to stand on his own, he eats good, and can scoot on the floor and go all over the place. Today we even built him a sling to hold him up, thinking he might build up some strength. We also gave him some bose earlier today. Does anyone have anymore suggestions, or have you seen anything like this before?

Good idea to give the bose!!! Had a small doe fawn 2 years ago that was bow legged and could barely stand. She did come around with weeks of special care though. Good luck!!!

Wayne,

I had one last year just as you described. I splinted the legs for 3-5 days at a time with a days rest in between splinting. It took about a month and The legs slowly straightened. She is not perfect but able to function on a sustainable level.

We give a fingertip of selenium gel and legs straighten out in a few days. Careful with selenium, too much can be harmful.

Go to the drugstore and get some vitamin E capsules. Put a small hole in the end of the capsule and squeeze the contents into the fawns mouth. Do this for 5-7 days and you will see a remarkable transition in the fawns posture.

i had the same thing this year. bowlegged and slightly swollen joints. my vet was out one day helping me do surgery on a doe and i asked her to look at it while she was there. from about ten feet away she said it had a navel infection. picked it up and looked and sure enough it was infected. 3 weeks later its doing great

I would suggest giving vitamins like Scott said. I don't think it would hurt to give it some Dextramethazone as well 1/2cc every 2 to 3 days.

I give my bottle babies infant vitamin drops (with iron) in their bottles every feeding. They get 1 drop per fawn per feeding. I'm sure it won't hurt anything.
