breeding times

In our area does will naturally come into heat around the 15 of November. Can I place may ciders in on lets say the 15 of October and shoot for ai at beginning of November. My thoughts are if they do not take the back up fawns will be pretty close to the fawns out of does that are not ai.  My other question is can I synchronize my live breads by using mga for 14 days just like has been done in cattle

Sound do able to me as the industry has advanced conception two week without a problem.

You would use CIDRS on your does to synchronize  the live breed does.  Most guys take out the CIDRS so only do 4 or 5 does a day so the buck isn't overworking.  Just take out the CIDR and it will come in naturally.

Jack,

If live breeding and wanting the majority to syncronize so earlier would be ok then couldn't you just give a shot of PMSG or Lutalese*spelling? and have a decent chance of bringing them in heat fairly close.

Truth,

The object of the CIDR is to retard the does from coming into heat.  The folligon is to stimulate her into egg production and help her go into heat in a timed fashion so you can AI her.  We are controlling that does heat cycle with our AI programs to come in heat and ovulate around 57 to 62 hours ..

Assuming you put the CIDR in before the heat cycle on Nov 1 on a adult doe that you wanted to breed Nov 15 or so she should come into heat around Nov 15/18 after CIDR removal .   So he would just pull CIDRS and she will come in naturally as the progestrum dissipates in her system which would indicate to her system she should come into heat..

that why I was asking jack if  the doe dosent naturally come into heat until November 15 the cider will do no good at stoping her heat cycle in that October to November time line will it?

i am ai'ing Oct 31st

I have a few yrlings i'm going to live breed, they wll get cidr's and pmsg just as the ai does to keep them synched with the others

Kass...the cidr will keep them from coming in early. there is always the potential they can so why risk it? use the cidr then you have a better guarantee you didn't miss the boat

Kass,

That is why you put the cidr in to stop any early heat cycle from even happening.  As long as that cidr is in her she will not come in heat.  So as soon as you pull the cidr she will come in heat in a few days.

Thanks Jack,

That was my understanding the CIDR stops the cycle from happening... My thought was would it be possible in order to handle only once and just do the PMSG... I mean if so I would consider doing that to a couple of my biggest doe fawns in December but it's not worth the risk / stress to handle them twice for 1 or 2 additional fawns on the ground.

It has been my experience the shot of folligon will only produce eggs if the animal is coming in heat.   I did that with some 8/9 month old sheep and it didn't bring them in heat.  But when they did cycle their next cycle it did seem to cause twins.  So with that said I would think the deer would respond the same.  I would try this on older good weight fawns as I think it might work and save you handling them twice.  Fact is it would not hurt them to try.

Is it to late to give a doe fawn a shot of folligon,  what if she has already been covered. Thx Mark
