I have a yearling doe that has what looks be an abcess, called vet and he said to us a syringe and check the fluid, said if it there is blood in the fluid it could be a broken jaw and I would have to put her down, anyone know anything else we can do? We are going to draw the fluid later tonight when my husband get home, I don't want to lose her!!

I would guestion that diagnoses! We have had abcesses with blood and broken jaws that we had wired back together with success. I can't beleive a vet would have her put down because of blood. Pain meds. like dex. banimine and antibiotics for infection. Do an x-ray before you put anything down. We all work to hard and become to attached to go off without all the facts! ZZ

I have had success with using baby oatmeal and mixing in pumpkin, fruit ect. like Scott suggested, drizzle a little Karo on top to get them interested.

Thanks to you all, love that I found this site as we are new to this. Seems she does not have a broken jaw, just an abcess. Having a real hard time getting it all out though, have tried 2 times and she just fights and fights. Any suggestions? We are continuing antibiotics and giving a shot of B complex vitamins. But she just won't stay still long enough to drain it all. We are using pen-aqueous, the vet said 3 day treatment and today is day 3, not sure that would be enough?
