Last week I was working construction in a new Kroger grocery store in Columbus, OH. I was on a lift running overhead piping when I heard a comotion (sp) on the floor. The 15 or so construction workers were focusing on a fawn that was making its way through the building. Most were trying to grab it when it made its way past them in the corridor. I lowered myself down to join in the hunt. Just as I reached the floor it made its way to a corner closest to me and with my fawn snatching skills was able to scoop it up. A little buck fawn and he was probably twice the size of any fawns I had!
I carried him across the road bleeting and kicking (not me the fawn) to an open field and he high tailed it away. Best I can figure.. a doe turned up dead on the median the day before about 1/4 mile away and this little guy was looking for his next meal. Not to worry though b/c I think he was plenty big enough to be weaned so I think there is a good chance he will live to be a hood ornament someday!
There's a good joke buried in this story somewhere. I just haven't figured out where yet.
