Buck in doe pen

If I left my buck in with the does this summer, instead of in with other bucks, will he get just as big? Here is why I ask. All summer he watches the doe pens, paces and guards the front of the buck pen, keeps the other guys he's with intimidated, etc. I want to eliminate that stress on him but somebody also thought he might get bigger by sizing up to those other bucks. I would like to here some other opinions. Thanks in advance!

I'd put him with the does. He may continue to intimidate the other bucks through the fence though. Sight barrier or moving as far away as possible would possibly help. Let us know what happens. Most bucks don't seem to care during the summer, but I've heard of a couple that go absolutely nuts if you take them away from their does.

I guess he doesn't really pace that much in the summer but he knows what direction those does are and always trying to see whats going on over there. Hey DC how you doing? I said if I left him , read that part again.

I have seen many many GREAT sires grow antlers in with does. Every deer is a little different.

We left our breeder buck in with "his" does for several years. Until one year I caught him trying to Play with one of the day old fawns. Then a couple of weeks later I found a fawn dead in the pen, thought he may have been the cause. Now after he looses his antlers I move him in with my yearling bucks. I worry about putting him in with the older bucks, I'm afraid they may hurt him. (he's 9 yrs old) He seems to enjoy being with other bucks and he's top dog which makes him happy. Hasn't seemed to affect his antler growth one way or another. This years rack is his biggest ever. Good to see you back on DC. Hope your feeling better.
