Buck score--official or unofficial

I have been looking thru a lot of recent and past auction catalogs and magazines and such, and noticed there is a lot of bucks that are estimated and most don't say "Official Score" . Just curious. How many breeders get their animals officially scored ? And , are people scoring SCI or B&C. How much difference is there between the the 2 measuring systems? I have been told for typical antlers there is virually no difference in the way they are scored , but that was only one persons opinion. Is anyone out there willing to tell me the rules behind scoring SCI? I would greatly appreciate it.

Also, I think the whole industry should pick one measuring system and stick to it to keep everyone on the same page. I know when I sell shooters they want the B&C score, maybe we should all stick to that. Just my opinion.

NADeFA and most in the industry have gone with SCI scoring since they support our industry and B&C does not. SCI scoring does not deduct for side to side differences like B&C does. I was told that there were only a couple of inches difference between RDM Goliath's SCI score and his B&C score. Groups like SCI and NRA stand with NADeFA on our issues and do so on a national stage and very publicly. Go to the SCI website to get more information.

Thanks for the info. I didn't realize B&C did not support us.

I usually put esitmated scores for the early promotional materials and then once we have them officially scored, I put the official scores on the ads for the year. You'll notice 'Est.' before any number early on and then I take the 'Est.' off once we have an official score.

David has an official SCI scorer come to score the bucks when we draw semen. Along with numerous other individuals that like to come watch and help.
