We have some bucks that started shedding during the night and then stop when it gets warm out during the day. After a day or two, it's evident that they don't care to shed the rest - at all. The antler velvet then becomes like a dark molded skin on the antler.

Is there a reason the bucks lack "excitement" to get the velvet all the way off? We put branches in the pens for rubbing on as we always have - never had this problem before. We have had high temps and humidity during the days but even now when the nights are cooling down, we don't understand why they don't get it off. Anyone else experiencing this?

Weve had six that are acting the same way. This pic is of one from last night. He started shedding out on Sept first. I have drug in multiple trees that I have cut down to try and help them but they are still taking way to long.

Same thing here as well...very weird.....but I am sure the closer it gets to the rut they will clean them off.....I hope so anyway!!

Same here as well, shed tines and take forever on the main beams, never had this before either.

Same thing here in southern Indiana. Main Breeder started Monday morning started from his bases and all of his tines are still covered three days later. Had another in full velvet tuesday evening totally clean wednesday morning.

I think it has been just to warm. The days are cooling down now. The bucks should get more active with 50 degrees at nights.
