Got a sample report back from the vet. One of my fawns is loaded with coccidia. I have it in a pen with one other fawn that is doing really well. Should I separate them? She said to treat with albon. Any advice on how to go about it? And, should I treat the two other fawns in the pen next to her? They didn't have any contact, but I do go back and forth between them. I try to keep pretty clean and don't mix equipment, but i have a loose fawn in that pen also. (Her sample came back negative, though). I'm hoping for some guidance from you guys that have been there. Thanks.
Forgot to say, she said worm all of them. I was going to use ivomec plus injected. 1/4 cc for each one. Sound OK?
Albon is good but expensive. Corid is another option. Corid can be used as a preventative or as a treatment and is less expensive. I like to use Safe-Guard on my fawns. It is an oral dewormer.

Ivermectin will do a good job worming. I usually use 1/2 cc on fawns. It is VERY difficult to overdaose a deer on ivermec.
I have never used Corid, but I have used ALBON several times. It does a great job. I have usually seen a complete turn around in the fawn in 2 to 3 days.
I would not administer anything to any fawn that was not showing signs of illness. I usually have 10 to 15 fawns in the pens together. If one gets coccidiosis, I only treat that fawn. I have never had it transfer from fawn to fawn. It is not contageous as far as I know, it is an individual situation.

Don't mess around I hate even hearing the word coccidia.......I lost some real good fawns last year to it.......I still trying to get over those losses.....anyhow.....use the albon at least 5cc's a day just load it up in a syringe and shoot it down their throat.......do this for 5 days.....make sure you continue it for 5 days......i would move the healthy fawn away from the one that is siclk too. Corrid or colloidal silver (very expensive) will take care of the problem. I would get started asap. Good luck
I just got back from getting some meds. I also ran home and moved the coccidia fawn into a pen by herself. My vet says to use ivomec on all of them and the start with the Albon. I got some liquid stuff from her cuz when I went to the supply store all they had were giant and I mean giant tablets.(like an oblong golf ball)
She says start with 1 tsp at first then go to 1/2 tsp for the next five days. Then again in 2 weeks. I forgot to ask her, should I give them some probios also? I've been giving the sick one yogurt along with pumpkin 5 times a day. Now, here is a question for ya's. Before I got the sample results back I was about to try the iodine cure next. Would that have taken care of the coccidia or would it just have masked it for a while and then have the runs return? I'm so glad I got them tested. Thanks for the advice!!

trust me coccidia is nothing to mess around with...last year I was under treating my fawns for it and that is why i lost them.......I would get the liquid albon and treat themm with at least 5 cc's per day for five days......just my thoughts but i had this last year and under treated my fawns and they suffered from my mistake.....good luck!!

Woody if I were you Id call robbie. Her number is in her replies, she can hook you up with probiotics that work, I know cause I had problems and Im happy to say everything is great now, Thank you Robbie!! after giving albon you give the priobiotic fawn paste, it works!!!
Sulfadimethoxine 12.5% solution is the generic of Albon. Target Probiotics has a whole line of products formulated for deer. You can't really over do the probiotics. Too much can cause some bloating is all.

Get whatever you can get your hands on immediately, even if it isn't Target, any probiotic is better than no probiotics. I will be happy to send you some Target, it is a great product and I have had amazing results with it for the last 3 years. You can switch to it once it arrives, but in the interem, use whatever you can find.
