i am in the process of restocking and adding to my basic supplies here. I have pretty much everything else on hand for emergency drop offs (i am always over prepared) thatwont start till prob this summer. But i have a bag of Kick Start that hubby picked up for me one day. It s colostrum and electrolytes, etc Is that ok? or do i need to get a certain brand? I am pretty well limited on whats available around here (as in a small co-op and a Tractor Supply) and if i dont have access, i want to find and order now....I bought so much milk replacer that TSC now carries it in HUGE bags.....lol just looking for some MUST HAVE AT ALL TIMES items that you guys suggest...

thanks

As a colostrum supplement

I like Manna Pro's Multi Species Powder in a bag.Tractor Supply sells

And Durvet paste in a Tube.

https://sec02.simplot.com/wsistore/ac/stores/1/Lamb_Kid_Paste_br_by_Durvet_P90C52.cfm

I have both on hand I do the tube paste in the mouth the first day born then

The Manna Pro powder mixed in their bottle as soon as pulled from mom...Just as an extra precaution.

Then as milk replacer

I buy Agri King Key calf with Bovatec I mix a little of the with red cap Milk to help with coccidiosis WHEN/IF NEEDED!

i've only seen the paste and the Manna Pro Kid Milk Replacer in or store.......will def follow up.....I used Sav-A-kid or Ultra 24 milk replacer then weaned over to red cap.. can u start with red cap or should i start with replacer then wean over to red cap? i never know the age fer sure of what i get brought to me, so i figured if very small, then colostrum straight away couldnt hurt?

I mix mine right with the red cap.... not water.

Sometimes if you have a hard fawn they will not like the taste of replacers...It smells good to me... Real sweet... but some fawns will take straight red cap easier. If that happens then I stay with the paste.

ok, thanks for the help.:) i came back here for the wealth of info !! someone here (or several folks together) need to write a guide book with all the great tips ..... .

i had my 2 fawns last year and it was trial and error..i would still have my little guy if it wasnt for the neighboring dogs... but past that, I have about 80% of my supplies on hand and a great vet that specializes in deer too. but you always need NOW what u cant get on a Sunday nite lol

i can get all of the stuff like that from my hubby and vet.. hubby is local Pharmacist (works drugstore and hospital) and my vet just tells him what to order or what to substitute in people meds and then converts the doseage accordingly, or i run to the office and get it until husbands order has come in lol its been a blessing with the goats ..

have all iv stuff and plenty of needles, syringes, dressings, etc. not all farm type meds are available for drugstores to order though. i just have probs finding what Tractor Supply is supposed to carry and doesnt here...but then i jumped over to Amazon.com and got alot of my stuff there cheaper than the catalogs...just comes directly from the manufacturers that way. it is almost impossible to find 7% iodine due to the use to make meth, hubby says it is so much paperwork to even order a small amount, i had to go to amazon and order 2 bottles to keep on hand.....kept waiting for the FBI to call me HaHaHa

i am making my list as I read of what i need to add to my supply stash
