Wayne,

You need people at all these meetings. In Minnesota we showed up at the meetings with FACTS that the DNR couldn't dispute and we shut the DNR down. If you catch them in a lie and present the facts the newspapers back down pretty fast. They don't want to get caught printing a lie, so put what the DNR says in doubt. If you need any help with information give me a call. Laurie Seale [830-928-3143] also has a lot of data that can help you. Good Luck!

No Phillip, I was unable to make it to the Macon meeting. We did have someone thier to listen and video tape the CIRCUS!

I did attend the Brookfield meeting last night and their is another TONIGHT @ Moberly Mo.

You really don't have any idea of the lopsided fairy tale story the Missouri dept of Consevation is telling at "story time+ in the adaptation of "THE TRUTH about CWD" It does make for good reading as they spin their tale about CWD and captivate the unsuspecting audience!

WE NEED EVERY DEERFARMER INFORMED AND IN ATTENDANCE @ THESE MEETINGS!!!

Their is POWER in NUMBERS and it SHOWS THEM THAT WE ARE PEOPLE AND NOT JUST NAMES ON A PERMIT!

WE PAY THE SALARIES OF THESES CLOWNS AND THEY SHOULD KNOW WE CARE!!!!!!

I have only been in the deer business for three years and I have not met all of the deer farmers out there.

I went to the Mo. Dept. of Cnservation's CWD meeting tonight in Moberly and didn't see any other deer farmers there that I knew.

If you're a deer farmer and you were there what did you think of the information presented?

Wow......you mo. Deer farmers need to unite like Wyane has been saying.......you can't expect farmers from other states ....unless just across the border to show up..."..help your self guys.......come on!!

The next scheduled CWD meeting sponsored by the MDC is Thursday, August 23rd at 7:00pm at the MDC Compound located just south of Kirksville on the west side of Hwy 63

Hope to see you there.

Thanks....Bill Mayes

I understand there is a similar meeting in Jeff City this Friday morning, I am hoping to be there. As for being lop-sided, it reminds me a lot of PETA's statements regarding Animal Agriculture.

Yes

Donald Hill has been asked to speak on behalf of the Cervid Breeders and Hunting Ranch Members of Missouri. We all need to be in attendance. I mean everyone. State Representative Shively and Remole will also be in attendance at my request. I will also be speaking to the second in charge at Farm Bureau in the morning and he will be attendance as well I believe. Be there by 8:30 or you may not get in. Tell everyone you know, even if they are from Iowa or Illinois. We need support. If 10 people show up they know we are unorganized. They will laugh us out of the room. Number mean dollars to them. This may be our last effort to get this thing turned around.

Today was a bad day for deer farmers. The MDC has officially put a moratorium on any future breeding permits or Hunting Rance permits for the next 180. They will then decide whether it will be extended for another 180 days or indefinite. They have completed the first step in their mission which is getting rid of us. I'm sure the rest of the state Orgs. are watching to see if the MDC can pull it off.

Thanks to Sam James and Donald Hill for speaking at the meeting today with the MDC. These guys did a great job representing all of us in the deer business. It was obvious that the decision had already been made to issue the moritorium before the meeting ever started. Private property rights and the rights of small business took a beating today at the hands of our government.

I agree Bill, a BIG THANKS to Donald Hill and Sam James for speaking on the behalf of the Missouri DeerFarmers and to ALL in attendance!

And I would also like to THANK ..........The Missouri Department of Consevations Tom Draper for adressing the State Commissioners on our behalf and telling them this moritorium :eek:WOULD NOT hurt our business in ANY way!

NOW THATS BIG BROTHER TAKING CARE OF THE LITTLE GUY!

I guess I'll expand my operation now that I know the "GOOD TIMES are here!

Commission approves suspension of issuing permits for new deer breeders and big-game hunting facilities

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – At its Aug. 24 meeting in Jefferson City, the Missouri Conservation Commission approved changes to the Wildlife Code of Missouri that indefinitely suspend issuing permits for new big-game hunting facilities and new wildlife breeding facilities in Missouri that hold white-tailed deer or mule deer.

The regulation changes to suspend the issuance of new permits do not apply to wildlife breeders and game ranches with existing permits. The suspension of issuing permits does not include wildlife-breeders or game ranches who wish to hold approved wildlife species other than white-tailed deer or mule deer. Renewal of existing permits for hunting and breeding facilities will be considered under established requirements of the Wildlife Code.

“The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) is responsible for managing and protecting the wildlife resources of the state and we take that responsibility very seriously,” says MDC Deputy Director Tom Draper. “With Chronic Wasting Disease now in Missouri, this suspension of issuing permits for new deer breeders and hunting ranches is one of several actions we are taking to help protect free-ranging deer from CWD, and to help ensure the health of captive deer and other cervids.”

MDC permit records show there are 27 permitted big-game hunting preserves in Missouri with white-tailed deer, and 277 permitted wildlife breeders with white-tailed deer.

MDC has held numerous open houses to share information and get public feedback on the issue of Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) and Department actions to contain the disease.

MDC provided current information on CWD and the proposed suspension of issuing permits for new big-game ranches and wildlife breeders that hold white-tailed deer or mule deer to members of the Missouri Whitetail Breeders and Hunting Ranch Association at the Association’s annual conference on Aug. 4.

Draper adds that MDC continues to work with landowners, deer hunters, members of the captive cervid industry and others on the issue of CWD and welcomes related comments at mdc.mo.gov/node/17901.

Chronic Wasting Disease is a fatal disease that attacks the nervous systems of cervids, such as white-tailed, mule and other types of deer. It is transmitted by animal-to-animal contact or soil-to-animal contact. It can spread through activities that unnaturally concentrate animals, the natural movement and dispersal of infected free-ranging deer, the transportation of live captive deer with CWD or the transportation and improper disposal of infected carcasses.

According to the Missouri Department of Agriculture, there is no evidence from existing research that CWD can spread to domestic livestock, such as sheep or cattle. According to the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services (MDHSS), there is no evidence that CWD can infect people.

The first two cases of CWD in the state were found in 2010 and 2011 at two private big-game hunting preserves in Linn and Macon counties. Following those discoveries, the first two cases of CWD in free-ranging deer were confirmed in 2012 in Macon County. Missouri’s confirmed cases of CWD total 11 in captive deer from the private hunting preserves and five in free-ranging deer harvested in Macon County.

With the help of hunters, MDC has tested more than 35,000 free-ranging deer for CWD from all parts of the state since 2002 and up to 2012. As a result of that testing, MDC scientists have determined it is highly unlikely that CWD has been present in the state prior to its recent discovery in northeast Missouri.

Draper says that the Code changes allow time for MDC to further assess the CWD situation, continue to engage stakeholders, plan for the future and identify and utilize the best and most current science to manage the disease.

New federal regulations for the interstate movement and disease certification of captive deer and other cervids were recently open for review and comment through the Federal Register at www.federalregister.gov. Additional information is pending publication. Draper says that the Code changes also give MDC, deer breeders and others time to review these new regulations.

“Conservation efforts such as providing good habitat and progressive deer management practices on both public and private land make Missouri a great place to hunt deer,” Draper says. “The cultural, social and economic importance that white-tailed deer provide the people of our state is, and will continue to be, one of our top priorities.”

According to MDC, Missouri has more than 507,000 deer hunters who spend about $690 million in the state each year on deer hunting and related activities. This has an overall economic impact of $1.1 billion in Missouri each year and supports almost 12,000 jobs. Many Missourians also enjoy viewing deer. A 2009 Gallup survey found that about 91% of Missourians are somewhat or very interested in observing deer in the outdoors.

Other actions the Conservation Commission and MDC have taken to limit the spread of CWD in Missouri include regulation changes, recommendations and continuing sampling of harvested deer to test for CWD.

The Conservation Commission approved a regulation change in May that restricts activities that are likely to unnaturally concentrate white-tailed deer and promote the spread of CWD. The regulation will become effective Oct. 30. It bans the placement of grain, salt products, minerals and other consumable natural or manufactured products in the CWD Containment Zone, which consists of Adair, Chariton, Linn, Macon, Randolph and Sullivan counties. The regulation includes exceptions for backyard feeding of wildlife and normal agricultural, forest management, crop and wildlife food production practices.

The Conservation Commission also approved a regulation change in May that rescinds the antler-point restriction (four-point rule) in the CWD Containment Zone, which became effective July 1. Yearling and adult male deer have been found to exhibit CWD at higher rates than female deer so a reduction in the number of male deer can help limit the spread of CWD. The dispersal of yearling males from their natal or birth range in search of territory and mates is also one of the primary means of expanding the distribution of CWD.

MDC also encourages hunters who harvest deer in the CWD Containment Zone not to take whole deer carcasses or certain carcass parts out of the area.

MDC will also continue to work with hunters who harvest deer in the CWD Containment Zone to collect samples for CWD testing.

Detailed information can be found in MDC’s “2012 Fall Deer & Turkey Hunting Regulations and Information” booklet available at MDC offices, from permit vendors and online at mdc.mo.gov.

I couldn't attend the meeting today had to work. Wish I could have heard what was all said today. A big thank you to Donald Hill, and Sam James for standing up for all the deer farmers at the meeting. I'm sure they did a great job. It just sounds like their mind was already made up before it started. Thank you to all the other deer farmers that could attend today for their support.

I was there yesterday and was very clear the MDC doesn't care as much about the animals, finding cwd, or getting more information on rules they just want us out of business period. For the people who couldn't be there if you don't make a attempt to show up at this meetings you will have plenty of time to do other things because you won't have deer to mess with. This is going to be a political fight with all the senators, state reps, and governors. We all need to call them and tell them because they are willing to help but don't know what deer farming is about shame on us if we don't take the time to explain it to them. Sam and Donald done a great job yesterday but the MDC had there minds made up and there was no changing them. And for EVERYONE in EVERY state if you have deer you must get out and be seen and heard this is political fight and politicians like to see a lot of people when they are on the campain trail. Don't make 30 breeders out of 277 fight for your rights while you stay home and watch tv then have balls enough to call us or get on the forums and ask what happened just to say what we should have or could have been done. Sorry to be so blunt but all of us are going to have to get off our ***** and do something now and not find reasons not to do so. United we can stand against them devided we are done. Now if you are really pissed for me saying that it's nothing compared to what we heard yesterday

If disease is their argument, then you need to be under Dept. of Agriculture instead of conservation. What department has vets??? This is the same scenario that has played out in state after state. Deer farms aren't wildlife. They are an agricultural endeavor and should be treated as such.

YEP could not agree MORE....Wild Rivers.......their biggest issue is who they are under........until you can get your farms under the Department of Ag....where it should be .....and i certianly understand it is out of your control at this point.......But i would be making a Huge conserted effort to get it changed........you guys will continue to have issues....you are competition to the MDC and their lively hoods.....they will never fight for you or support you.........it is a conflict of interest.....it was that way in PA until we fell under the Dept of Ag........I wish you MO guys the best....i am pulling for you!!

The missouri department of conservations facebook page posted the new regulation and some people chimed in with how bad deer farms are. Kinda struck a nerve and I vented a little. If you get a chance get on there and add some more defense for us. We need to expose as much as posssible to the public in any form. 38,000 people see it.
