We have been attending several auctions where it seems other states other then ours are able to purchase deer from states that have had CWD found as long as they have a 5 year CWD status & it is at least 25 miles away from where it was found.

Ok INDIANA deer farmers is this something we want to try to be able to do? It would be no different then people purchasing deer in MO where the 1st case has been found there.

It is up to us as deer farmers to come together in INDIANA to get this change. I spoke with someone who stated if this is something we as an industry would want to look at doing for the state of INDIANA then it could be up for discussion in possibly getting it changed.

We would be willing to get this rule changed in INDIANA as we all know there are great deer in other states to expand our farms where currently we are not able to buy from.

WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS INDIANA DEER FARMERS:cool:

For what it is worth, my farm is located in Wisconsin, therefore farmers in Indiana are not able to purchase deer from me. Over the last couple of years I have had numerous Indiana deer farmers tell me that they would love to be able to buy deer from me but are not allowed due to the current Indiana laws.

I think you should be able to buy deer from any state as long as the CWD status is met. If you are already buying semen from deer in CWD states how is that any different then buying the deer it self?

If you have a deer farm in Northern Indiana lets say Shipshewana. You are about 3 hours form a CWD positive case in Illinois and what 2 hours from a case in Michigan. I live in Southern Illinois and live 6 hours from a positive case. Why should Indiana stop me from selling to their state? I would have a greater chance of getting it from them then they would from me? This needs to be changed.

Matt

Now that makes sense.

Isnt there a national or federal CWD regulation that is being worked on and will that change how the individual states regulate movement.

My proposal would be to accept deer from these states, from all farmers unless found in the wild. If it is found in a pen it can be eradicated. If found in the wild you can't import deer from within 25 miles of the location until a farm located within the 25 miles has been CWD monitored 5 years after being double fenced. The 25 mile rule looks pretty good unless you are 24 miles away. This plan would allow everyone to do business if they could afford to double fence and hang on for 5 years..

testing has proved that CWD is everywhere....just keep looking and you will find it,what government genius came up with the that a line on a map will stop the movement of animals???? news flash ...... CWD is probably everywhere where it will be as cervids have spread across the continent following mans progress providing them there needs to survive and thrive...... so what's the point??

I agree with curtis ...It will be found in every state and the disease is just blown up by the media... they don't tell all the facts about what they have learned about the disease.. They still have not proven that the disease effects the animal. The positives show to be in good health ..
