My buck was 4 years old. Yesterday he was the first one to the feeder and every thing was normal. This evening when I went to feed he was dead with no signs of injury, just laying under a tree. Not sure what caused this but he was sick this summer but had appeared to get over it and was doing fine.

That's awful. Do you think he could have a broken neck? Maybe he hit the tree or even the fence. I hope you figure out what went wrong. Best of luck in the future.

Is he in a pen with other bucks? Do they have their antlers? Many times the wounds from being gored are difficult to find and if in the gut, do not bleed.

He is the only buck I have. He was in a 5 acre pen with 7 does. He was out in the middle of the pen with his feet tuck under him like he just layed down.

I lost a doe this year to what we think was clostridial A . It kills them fast! Clostridial C&D takes longer and shows sign, I know how your feeling! nothing hurts more than to walk out to a pen to find a dead healthy deer!

I'm sorry to hear about your buck. I just lost a buck fawn to EHD last week. Are you going to get necrop done?

I agree with WMW and Neeby because it sounds like what i went through with 3 of my deer this fall, all were healthy one night the next night they were dead, necropsy report said clostridial type A

Novartis makes a vaccine for Clostridium perfringens type A. You can get it at valley vet.com. It only cost about $0.50 a dose.

The bacteria likes more acidic ground as my vet says, so I lime the pens heavy!! Also I educated myself as much as I could on this killer! Mitch P , Robbie, and billy Jo, were a big help too me, and more than willing to help all!

Thanks Russel Van Hees, I called valleyvet.com and got the item number. I had trouble finding the vaccine so I called. It is item number 35093. However it is more expensive than expected. I have had clostridium problems in my pens. If the vaccine works it is worth every penny !!
