Doe with chronic diarreah

Sure is nice to be able to learn new tricks from an old timer.

Virgil,

Watch your step you young whipper snaper, who are you calling old?? Thanks Virgil.

I had some similar experiences, I have found adding probiotics to be very helpful, all the medications and changing of foods can mess up the rumen. I added probiotics and found the treatments to be more effective.

Good advice tail white!! I have been having troubles this year and plan om doing that with my next batch of feed!!

We have had a couple reindeer cows like you describe (I know they are not whitetail).

They would run neg fecals, and cbc and chem panels seemed fine. The scours would not clear from dewormers or antibiotics.

But I do really agree with the fiber and probiotics mentioned above. The probios can be given top dressed on the feed as a supplement. Or you could bolus the individual. Does anyone out there feed beet pulp to their whitetail? It is a good fiber source.

ouldn't hurt to run a johne's test. You can do the pcr test, (believe that is the right abbreviation) it is a stool sample culture test. Doesn't take overly long to run.

Just my 2 cents.

Thanks for all the helpful advice. I am going to start with the probiotics first and let thier body do what it's made to do.

I will let you know as things progress. Thanks again!

I have beet pulp in my feed, but maybe not concentrated enough to say they are actually "getting" beet pulp...I also have a 2-year old buck that has chronic scouring. There have been a couple times he has stopped, but not for very long, and always returns. Tail full and sticky, but what really seems odd to me is this deer's social behavior. He has a habit of racing to any other buck in the pen when he is urinating, and either drinks or licks the urine as it falls to the ground. Are the two things related? Anyone else see any deer doing this? More than just smelling, seems to be obsessed with it.

Wow Phillip...did you buy that buck from Virgil by any chance?? lol ok just kidding.....but that is pretty crazy......it sure can't help him with his scours that's for sure......

Wayne,

You should have had time to get the shot of Mictil 300 in your deer. Did it work and clear up the deer yet? I'll bet it did if you tried it. Just curious.

I did the 3 series of Mycotil and pencicillian like you said. It worked great! But then about 10 days later they are back to the craps again. I am now trying probiotics and having bacteria and viral cultures done.

Do you guys add minerals to your feed as well? If so, please, which ones are most generally added?

Same here. It cleared up, for a while but came back. Again my doe is very healthy acting and looking except for her rear end. I also added the probiotic topdress with no visible results yet.

On another note in my fawn pen I noticed one doe fawn with swolllen cheeks and a messy rear end, I gave her 1.5cc of Fusogard and added a goat probiotic top dress from TSC (Goats Prefer) and she cleared up in about 3 days.

My feed from ADM has the minerals added, but I also always have a mineral block in each pen all year long.

In severe cases of the scoots and weight lose i have heard of guys using 100% pumpkin filling out of the can to get a deer's system back in check. Once back on track they mix rice brand into there feed to put the weight back on. its kind of old school but i have been told it works.
