Can anyone give me any info on a doe with a ruptured bag? We had one that accidently went through the chute when we were running fawns through to wean and a couple days later, she looked like the one that John Yoder had in the Heartbeat Whitetail magazine.

2 nights ago, we drained as much fluid out as we could with needles. Stuck them in the soft part of the bag and they drained while we pushed on her bag. She seems to be doing alot better.

My questions are (as were John's) is:

Will she breed?

If she does breed, will her bag be ok to nurse next year?

We put her in the pen with our CIDR does right now just so a buck wasn't messing with her since they are starting to chase does around now.

Thanks

Susan,

I had one do that last year. The bag got as large as a football and she had trouble walking. Her bag had a rip in it from fluid pressure. I put the fawns back with her but they couldn't or didn't want the milk. I figured she would not breed. By November she looked better but I didn't put a Cidr in her as I thought she would not breed. This spring she had two fawns and was able to nurse them. So my answer to both your questions is yes.
