i have always been one to take people at their word. being an honest man myself, i figured a mans word is good till proven otherwise.  all i will say is, if buying a live deer off the internet , or anywhere else for that matter, demand to see a DNA certificate. i purchased one from a well know breeder advertised as such and such breeding, however after delivery, the cert had only the sire listed and nothing on the bottom side!  Three months later, still no satisfaction, only more rhetoric. I personally believe if you can't prove it, then you should not be advertising the animal as such, obviously not everyone agrees with me. Once again, my message is " Buyer Beware" the customer is not always right!  tom l porter , still a KS deer enthusiast!

Sorry to hear this!! I will say most breeders I have dealt with were upfront and honest! Now there always is one bad apple to give you a bad taste in your mouth! I know I went through it with a breeder not far my farm here in northeastern Pa, i bought my first few deer from him , and I will say he scammed me good! I won't even get into all the S--- this kid pulled but I will say he should be selling swampland in florida cause he talks a good one!! I found out just this week that he sold a breeder buck off his farm months ago that I own 25% of! I haven't talked to him for some time but you would think he would of let me know this! He did not nor did he give me any money as of yet, I found this info out through others, who does this !!  So yes tom your not the only one thats had been ripped off! but as I said the majority are honest! Don't let this stop you from raising those Monsters! And I hope you two guys can work this out, I gave up hope with the knuckle head Ive been having trouble with a long time ago! Some people just don't get it! reputation is everything in this business and its in the sellers best interest to make the buyer happy!  Good luck!!!

Sorry to hear that you had a bad buying experience.  I have never understood why anyone would want to sacrifice their reputation for a few bucks.

I have done business with Tom Porter in the past.  His word is 100% good.

I find it upsetting that there are dishonest acts that go on. I personally couldn't do it, I could never sell a deer that was anything other than what I said it was. It's just the way I was raised. I wouldn't be able to sleep at night with the guilty conscious. But in the world we live in today, I can't expect anyone to trust me that does not know me. People are scammed all the time, and when you get burnt once it stings, and it may be very difficult to put trust in just anyone. I have become friends with several breeders that I know for sure would never hurt me, I would buy from those guys without DNA, but for complete strangers, it's hard to not want DNA especially in a big money deal.

Tom I hope you resolved your problem, My Problem with a shady breeder is not!  I received a letter today from the young man that I own %25 percent of the buck he sold without telling me or giving me any money from the sale! He gave me every excuse in the book on why he didn't owe me anything! He took no responsibility or gave no apology ! Just more lies and arrogant remarks! We had a agreement with no stipulations! Like my grandfather once said,  Some people are so stupid there happy with themselves! LoL! well Im A firm believer in karma and I just found out that this guys farm was recently quarantined by the Pa dept of ag for the second time in two years for CWD !!!!! Karma truly is a *****!!!! Here is another quote my grandpa used, You reap what you sow!!  I have bought many deer from breeders and never had this happen so like tom said on his post Buyer Beware!! Theres always a first time for everything I guess.

You have to be careful what you ask for Scott. Dont you have or had animals on your farm from his farm? Takes a long time for cwd to show up sometimes. If so you know you are not in the boat alone. You could be bit again next year. Or the next or the next.........

I hear you mike but I didn't ask for it, He makes his own problems ! fortunately I was smart enough to get rid of his genetics years ago, I sold a couple does for a lot less then I paid, And I even gave one away!! My status is fine and I would think yours is also, This last Quarantine he got was cause of a deer he sold 6 or more years ago and was on a few farms before being sold to the farm where it died and tested positive, It is not believed to of started on his farm but was born on his farm so he got quarantined,  I refused to do business with him years ago when I saw how he handled people!  The only tie I have to him is this 25% ownership of a 5 yr old breeder buck and you see how that worked out, not so good!!!  I didn't mean to offend anyone that has had problems with cwd, I wouldn't wish it on anyone ! Not  even the screwball that Im having trouble with ,  Just making a point about Karma,  Oh well live and learn!

I hear that but you are talking to one of the victims of that case that is now shut down along with a handful of others i know of. The deer in question was not sold 6 years ago hence everybody shut down in a handful of states. Just wanted to let ya know that statement towards one cuts many!  Have a good one!!!!!

Sorry Mike As I stated it wasn't directed towards anyone else but the guy that Im dealing with, as I said the deer was born on his farm but its felt thats not where the disease originated,  I know of no one quarantined that bought deer from him other then the guy that bought the suspect deer originally, which I was told was almost 6 yrs ago, most quarantines stem from the farm where the deer died, As I said Im sorry ! didn't mean to offend , but like you I don't take crap  and sometimes that comes off the wrong way!  I m sure it will work out for you, I checked out your website and you got some serious breedings ! congrats!
