I bought a few pied does to add to our herd. One has been sick off and on. Had the vet out a couple times and we have her ailments now under control. Through our discussion I realized, although we are not on CWD program, the farm in which she came from was. Therefore, she has the tags in her ear. Is there a way to trace that number and get more info on her? Age genetics etc?

No, the farmer I got them from is not on cwd either we are not mandated to do so. The deer were actually removed from the original owner due to some illegal acts....long story but just wanted to see if there was a way to find out more about her from the numbers on her ear tags?

Do I understand the state of Ohio lets you move deer around that are not on a monitoring program? Do I have that correct?

Yah, PA is much more strict than ohio. We don't have to tag our deer at all. Even when they are sold. The tag in her ear is a white plastic round tag that just has US stamped in it. It says it is illegal to remove and has a long serious of numbers . I believe she is about 7. But has been in pretty poor health. It's not critical to find out but very curious.

Independance Ranch..yes, as long as the deer is not taken across stateline there is no mandatory monitoring program. CWD program is your choice.

Here in Ohio if you are in CWD.

We have to tag our deer with usda tags just like you.

At one year or as fawns be for they leave the farm.

We have state vet come and do yearly count and put tags in.

If you are not in CWD on tags at all.

Yah, Ive hard a lot about how hard it is in PA. It's funny because we are on the state line. I live in Ohio, across the street where my mailbox is, is PA. We have a friend in PA who has deperately been trying to start a deer farm and has given up. Unless you choose to be on CWD there is no need to tag or anything. Just can't sell out of Ohio. We're pretty small, just sell urine, so we really don't get bothered at all.

PA is a very easy state to be in ...And if you buy certified deer you keep their status you don't have to start from the bottom unless you mix them with a lesser status herd. You just have to keep testing any that die (724)735-9924 is my number if your friend has questions. I'll see if I can help answer them...or give him someone who can.

Sounds really screwy to me. If you guys think you have it bad, try deerfarming in West Virginia. I can't beleive anyone would even want deer that aren't CWD monitored.

About these piebalds, tell me more about the illegal activity on the original farm and even who that farmer was/is. I have dealt in piebalds for 6 years and may have some information I can share with you. You can send that in a private message, I wouldn't want that sent on a public forum.
